Brown Wire Mod: How To

Just FYI: My 99 EB expedition has AWD, 4WD HI, 4WD Low. No option for 2wd.

What if I don't want to retain the AWD feature but keep 4HI and 4LO, do I just clip the wire and leave out the switch part?

Did the brown wire mod on my 2000 Expy XLT by accessing behind the passenger-side kick panel. Spliced in with 12 gauge wires to a 30amp switch that I mounted next to my A4WD 4H 4L selector. I turn the bypass switch on and it lights up and auto4wd works. Turn it off and I’m in 2WD. With it off I can still switch the selector to 4H or 4L and they work!! Yahoo!!!!! Now when in 2WD the front drive train no longer makes the annoying groaning noise under acceleration that I’ve always known. Can’t wait to see if my gas mileage improves.
