CB Installed... well awhile ago..

well I bought the "Firestik ss-204A" universal door jamb mount and a 3ft tuneable Firestik antenna. The mount simply attaches to the door jamb with 4 self taping screws... I had to use one bigger screw due to the body lines were I mounted mine... the coax cable I simply removed the driver's side taillight and ran the wire behind it and straight down (once I removed light I reached down and pulled out the styrafoam (SP?) and ran the wire under the truck... then I routed wire along frame using zip ties to hold it in place... I then pulled back the carpet on the driver's side and pushed out a plug which was the perfect size to pull coax through... I cut a V notch in gromet and put gromet back best that I could and then used duct tape to seal the hole... then the coax was routed behind console to CB which got mounted to side of console... 2 star bit screws hold top of console on and once removed could easily route all wires and bolt CB in place...

and yes that is a custom GPS holder..lol took one that originally had suction cup for window and unbolted suction cup part and bolted it right to the console... out of the way and very easy to see...

hey, got a question for you. what color is rear diff fluid supposed to look like? mine is coffee color (with lots of milk)...tan colored....and smells funny. i think i have water in my rear diff.....

i saw that CB mount but don't like the way it mounts... plus I got my mount alot cheaper than that one....

yeah I can't remember diff color... i've got American History 1876-Present on the mind...lol doing homework for class.... but def sounds like you got water in it... time to change some fluid

A coffee color does mean its time to change but tan? that's just kind of odd.

As for the CB, those things have always been a pain for me, fuses pop every 4th time I'd start the car, the range sucks no matter what antenna I use and everyone else using one is just talking about the quarter ton of weed they have stashed in their trailers!

Police scanners are a better investment if you ask me.

i really only use my CB for long road trips (like running back home on leave if i dont fly) or when i am offroading with others that have CB's. good way to keep in touch. where in michigan you from black? i am from about 45 mins north of grand rapids, right off of 131.

and the rear diff fluid....its tan colored and smells funny. almost burnt. i think its tan cuz my guess is it has water in it and the smell is cuz the friction modifier is diluted from the water and the gears are getting hot. i just hope everything is okay with it tomorrow.

Im From a Detroit 25 mins north where 96, 696, and 275 (sort of) intersect. CB's for off roading does make sence though.

When you drain the fluid see if there is a seperation of water and oil thatd be the clearest sign.

okay. i think im goin to steal your idea walnuts. sry. i was thinking of a way to mount an ant and thats the best way i can see. i also love you neons. im going to do mine like that too. when i get them. thinking blue inside though. and red outside. idk. thats if i have time. o and your cb. is the passenger uncomfortable sitting with it there? im thinking about doing that with mine. couldnt decide if there or drivers side. and i need to redo my diff. its leaking. BAD now! i think its the gasket. shouldnt be that much or to hard to change should it? never done diff before. ill ask my dad to help.

im going to attempt to change my fluid today panda. i will let you know how it goes. from the way it was explained to me....super simple. just loosen the bolts, let her drain, remove the cover, clean both surfaces, replace the gasket or RPV or something like that, cant remember, and put it back on. wait 30 mins and refill with 75w140 synthetic with some friction modifier.

If you order the kits, the Firestik's come with 16 feet of cable. They recommend that as the optimum length. If you don't need that much, you just loosely coil the extra.

Wingnut, do you think a spring on the mounting end of the antenna would be a good idea? I'd hate to mess up a Firestik with a low branch or something...

wow many questions so I'll try to get them all....

I bought a 18ft roll of coax and have just enough to reach with minimal extra

I didn't use a spring because there is a lot of flex in the firestik and a spring would allow too much flex and hit the paint...

It's not RPV its RTV silicon to redo the gasket

My wife sits in the passenger seat and the CB doesn't bother her at all... before i drilled holes to mount it I had her sit and check but were it is at she has never even hit it...I originally was going to do driver's side but I would keep hitting it with my knee, and I'm always driving and not always have a passenger so they get to deal with it..lol

The interior lights I ran a wire and spliced it into the power wire for the light in the bottom of the door... that way it works with my interior lights... never did a thread since I had them in before I found this site...
