Just bought a 99' 4X4 5.4L XLT with 76K and this weekend I'm doing the complete tune-up.

1. Motor oil & filter - plan on using Valvoline (high mileage) oil & Mobil1 filter.
2. Tranny fluid & filter - don't know fluid type & over the counter filter/gasket kit
3. Front/Rear diff - need to check the tag/door sticker to see if I need the modifier
4. Transfer case - no idea
5. Air filter - K&N drop-in
6. Spark plugs & coil boots - what is the recommended model# from ford?

What am I forgetting? Any tips? Any thing else I should do, or any fluid brand/weight recommendations?

I already have the special spark plug socket.

i use a mobil 1 filter and penzoil suv oil. when i used valvoline high mileage, i had bad oil leaks. i also use 5w30 year 'round.

i had my tranny fluid done at a dealer for a different problem that was being fixed under warranty.

i just turned over 102K on my 99 5.4L xlt expy, and i just scheduled to have all my fluids changed at a local shop for $300.

i also use the K&N drop in, and i really like it.

for the plugs, expect about a 4 hour job. there have been numerous posts to this site, how to, and what to look for. i am having mine changed by a local shop for $200. the dealer wants $250 in labor and $50 for parts...forget that!

Thanx for the reply

I completed everything this past weekend.. the plugs weren't that bad with the correct tools. All in all I spent about $175 & 5 hours on:
front & rear diff's
transfer case
tranny fluid
tranny filter
motor oil & filter
coolant
spark plugs
coil boots
tire rotation
air pressure check
top off all other fluids
