When I’m sitting at a stop light, I can hear what sounds like a cooling fan behind the instrument panel somewhere. It’s really really faint but if my climate control is turned off and I’m just idling I can hear it. Is there actually a fan back there?

It could be a fan for the nav system and you have really good ears.
Is it possible you are hearing the engine fan just blasting on high coming through the firewall?

Yeah cooling fan can sound like a f-22 taking off some times.

You're probably hearing the fan for your air conditioner and heater positive ventilation system. Started somewhere around 1969 and the end of the vent windows on cars such a sad day. I miss those vents.

Definitely not my radiator fan. That thing is loud and actually hurts my ears when I’m standing outside the truck. It sounds just like a super quiet computer case fan. I can only hear it when my climate control is turned off and truck is idling. Not important to know, but have been curious a few times. My hearing is painfully sensitive. I’m glad since I’m a career musician but it’s also a curse as I have to wear hearing protection for every day things that most people don’t even react to.

Allboost probably nailed it. Most nav's have a small fan to keep cool and generally make a little noise but most people wont even notice. You being a career musician I figured you'd be deaf by now

Nice ok. Glad to know I wasn’t hearing things. No pun intended. Not that kind of music lol. Much more ballad/quartet stuff. Gaither Vocal Band kind of stuff

Turn off your seats and see if you still hear it!! My sweetheart and I were driving back from NY on Sunday and I heard what I thought was an air leak...I was in the passenger seat so I was hearing everything from a different position....it was just the seat fan!

Turn the key to on mode without actually starting the truck. If you have the push button start feature, hit it twice without stepping on the brake. This will turn on all the electronics without starting the truck. Next turn off HVAC, seat cooling, radio etc. See if you can still hear the hum.

That was off as well. But I think the consensus is that the nav has a cooling fan back there. That must be it.

Is it just me, or are these vehicles finally working right after 17 plus years, and everyone is bored and finding things wrong, or that bother them. Whatever happened to all the diagnostic we had to do on the 97-10 models. Really a fan noise bugging you! You guys are making too much money, and need a hobby! Maybe buy a classic British car. That will give you something to complain about!

Lol. I’m seriously impressed with my EL. I have almost 100,000 miles on my 2015 with zero issues. We will see what the next 100,000 hold. But so far so good
