so over the weekend i made a custom air intake, using 2 3in rubber couplers, 1 long rubber elbow, to pieces of 3" PVC( one about 6 or 7" long and another about 16" long), the stock MAF sensor, stock IAT sensor, and part of the stock piece that connects the elbow to the TB.

this is what it looks like

this is the piece of PVC that goes from the elbow towards the TB its beveled to match the inside of the elbow to help reduce turbulence
6in pvc elbow to coupler.jpg
this is the beveled edge of the 16in PVC that connects to the stock MAF sensor its beveled from the inside out to match the inside diameter of the MAF

this is the stock MAF sensor, once removed from the giant air filter box, the is 2 bolts hold it to the big end, removed that then slimmed down the one end that goes from 3 to 4 inches so that it would fit snug over the air filter rubber connector thingy the other end fits perfectly into a 3 rubber coupler.

then somewhere a long the 16" PVC we drilled a 5/16's hole, i put mine about middle and to the side so it was easily excess-able and fit the IAT sensor, which i had to cut out of the stock flex hose, it fits snug right away but will need to put some rubber gasket around it to seal it and make it stay.

part 2

here is the modified TB thing that i had to cut from the stock elbow.

here is the stock IAT sensor in the hole
Stock air inlet temp sensor..jpg
this is the part of the old air filter box that had two pegs that went into two grommets to help hold the air box down, i just cut it to help keep the new air filter from hitting all the wires and crap below and to help keep some of the crud from the tires from hitting the filter as well.

this is the air sensor and what it looks like attached to the filter.

and this is what the finished product looks like.

after i did this i noticed a huge difference in power, and shifting seems to be better than before. I also gained bout 2 mpg from it on the highway. The best part about it it only cost about $40, if you have some 3" PVC lying around like i did then it could be cheaper, also if you wanted to you could use actual PVC for the elbow and couplers then paint it anyway you want but i just used the black rubber from menards i thought it looked more like a kit then homemade it is just cost a little more than the plastic, but all in all it only took about 2 hours.......

Looks good. On my Dodge I used a curved piece of 3" conduit. They sell it at Lowes for like $10. It would probably work for your application and eliminate some of that coupling.

Mine isn't painted yet, but some of the guys on the Dodge site that did this painted them up really nice and it looks aftermarket, not homemade.

Nice job! Looks pretty good- especially for hommade. If anyone is interested, you can pick up one of these from Spectre for an extra $18. I guess there is a certain amount of pride you feel by building something yourself and thats cool, but I guess I'm just a slacker! lol
