I have been watching folks with 2022s get an update over the air for Synch 4s with updated features we don’t have on our 2023. Mine is regularly changing settings on me, losing radio presets and it just a pain in the butt to use.

So today I went to my dealer and asked the service writer if he can tell me if updates are available for mine. Uh, no, you will have to bring it in and we will hook up to your vehicle to see. Me - what if I give you my VIN number? ( I was not in the Expedition at the time but had the VIN number with me.). No, you will have to bring it in and let us hook it up. If an update is available it normally takes several hours to “force” a download.

Owning new vehicles today has become a royal pain. I live 40 miles from the dealer and don’t want to spend a day just to find out whether an update is even available. And in my case it not just that I don’t like how the system works, it is having several problem issues.

Anyone with a 2023 having any luck?

No Sync 4A update for me yet, and I have an early build of the 2023 (within a couple of weeks of 2023 model year start of production.

Do you have auto update turned on? And do you have a WIFI setting setup to your home Internet?
Have you checked your Ford Sync or go to Ford.com and log into your account to see if a new firmware is available?

Yes to the first two. No to my account. Did not know that was available - meaning the firmware. I just looked and it’s telling me I need to set up something on the vehicle. I thought I did.

I have to admit that I’m at a point in my life that I’m sick of having to set up a million accounts to run my life. I’m actually not bad at it, I just hate doing it for EVERYTHING.

Thanks for your advice. You have been helpful on all my threads.

Here’s what seemed to trigger it for me. I had on auto updates and wifi. But after reading on this forum I ALSO turned on scheduled updates to run every night at 2am. I don’t know if it was coincidence or what but mine downloaded over the air the next morning in my work parking lot. I had also gone to a website I found with my VIN to check and see if I had updates. It had I had one pending but it wasn’t the new one. So it could be coincidence but I think it downloaded the precursor over night, then I was clear to get the new one. Who knows but that was my experience. Good luck. The update is nice.

Would not lose sleep waiting for it. I waited for mine thinking it would be life changing but it was no big deal. A few new options but nothing game changing. Wish I could reclaim all the time I spent checking for it.

Im bringing this thread back up to see you else has still not gotten the 4A software update for a 2023. Others started getting it seven months ago and I still have not.

Ive tried all the different “tricks” Ive read to get it to come though with no success. I have taken it to the dealer and they told me they can’t help because my VIN does not show not show an update. I have called Ford Customer service twice to no avail.

I also want to remind for those of you who have not seen my prior posts, our has real glitches on a regular basis. I wont go into them all here, but lets just say it is irritating as heck.

Im looking to see if others are having the same problem.

I bought my '23 Limited HO in March '24 off the dealership lot so it should have had all the current updates installed. My Syne4a seems to be trouble free wrt CarPlay and other setting EXCEPT the power running boards. So I assume there are updates available.

Question -- Was the change from Sync 4 to Sync 4a just to accommodate the surplus use of the 15" screens made for the Mach E and stuffed into the 2022 Expy/F150 update? Was this a straight software update? Any hardware update?

You can find your version number. I can never remember where but I always ding it. Buy the easiest way to tel l is if the home screen has a camera icon on the top left, and if you can change the temperature with the big knob that also controls the volume.

Cant answer your other questions. I think 4a is only with the 15” screen

I was having the same problem, no updates since I bought my 23 last year, my dealer has mobile service and I scheduled a technician to come to my house, as suspected my expo was several patches behind and the tech loaded me up, everything is working like it should, I was having problems with my expo disconnecting from home wifi, so I suspect that was the reason for no updates, that problem is fixed now, expo staying connected when and come and go. I park expo in garage and cell updates won't work due to metal rool and stuccu siding, no cell signals come thru so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that mine will update via wifi now. One thing that wasn't fixed was the mini gauges, I want tranmission temp vs boost, I can change it to tran temp but after key cycle it reverts back to boost, I've called it into Ford, if anybody else is having this problem call Ford Customer Service and complain, ie if one person calls I doubt if they will fix it, but if a 100 people are calling perhaps they will. Hope this helps.

@Robert Bushnell Did they mention what modules they updated to resolve the WiFi disconnect issue? I have the same issue and am curious if resolving this will allow the Sync update to come through.

After 345 days I noticed new icons on the top of our 2024 Platinum Expedition today!!! Checked the software updates settings and we have 6.14.0. Having dinner so I haven’t tested anything, but I’m hoping this means we have BlueCruise 1.2!
