My Wife has a 2013 Expy EL (5.4L with 125K miles). I installed the K&N cold air intake on it for Christmas. The only other modification is a glasspack muffler in place of stock muffler. Everything else is fine except for on acceleration we get a slight dieseling sound. Do these require tuning for that small of a change? My car (2012 Focus) has had a bit more done to it (still not tuned) without the dieseling sounds.

It may be just the difference in removing all of the baffles and resonators in the factory induction system. Thise are there to reduce noise, I'm guessing your kit removed all of them, and now your hearing what they eliminated. Unless I dont understand the sound you are describing.

If the sound you describe as dieseling is in fact pinging, that is bad and you can damage the motor. If it is pinging under acceleration it can be many things including fuel all the way up to computer issue's. Could try disconnecting battery and draining the system capacitors and see how it runs.

i would ditch the k&n... factory intake actually pulls cold air, and doesnt foul up your MAF

You are running lean. Get the vehicle scanned and go from there. Pinging can cause damage, serious damage.
