I was driving home from work and my fans kicked on and my temp gauge dropped all the way down. On the dash it also popped up saying engine coolant overtemprature. I changed the thermostat and the water pump but it still does it. Has anyone had this problem before?

Did you bleed the air out of the system? Did it happen immediately after changing the water pump and coolant? The heater core gets air trapped in it. Ford Tech Makuloco has a procedure for getting the air out.

As an aside, air conditioning failure can trigger high fans. We have a nineteen F150 that has had the air conditioning system fail three times. Something about the 1234 freon in the newer trucks.
