I was on the way out of town yesterday with the family, cruising at 80 in 10th gear on the highway. Started to slow down to approach other traffic and out of now where the transmission started acting weird between 8th, 9th and 10th. Kinda struggled to get back up to the next gear then hard shift. A wrench icon popped up on the dash so I pulled over at the next exit, shut down, and let it cool. At this point I didn't feel comfortable driving another few hours away from home to potentially get stuck, so we headed back. I did stop at the closest shop in a small town. Unfortunately, they are more of a tire/oil change/etc. shop. The gentleman working there was kind enough to link up his reader and said there was a gear ratio issue. I took the back roads home going about 45 the whole way for around 2 hours. No issues. Any suggestions on what might have caused this? Taking it in to my shop this week, but will probably be a few days before they can get me in. Ford dealer wants to run diagnostic for $400 and hold it for 2 months before they can check it out which makes zero sense to me. "We're short handed and only have two guys that work on transmission-related issues."
