Howdy folks , I was looking around at doing an exhaust upgrade ? It seems like the cat backs run between $300 - $400 for a single system and $400 - $600 for a dual system , , that seems a little pricey . I have also stumbled across a few do it yourself options .

Option 1 )

KGrHqVh0E3PPLWCWfBN6DwHGev_12_zpsaddaf94f.jpg

This I found for $189 out the door ( Originally for an F150 ) Though I like the dual look , the tubing is not mandrel bent , and not sure if I would have to modify it too much to make it work . any thoughts ?

Option 2)

This assy is a 3" single side swept mandrel bent from Dynomax $116 out the door. ( This one is made to fit an Expedition )

This one is from Dynomax for $44.99

This one is a Cherry Bomb for $49.99

http://www.ebay.com/itm/130546009809?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Would the 35" long be better ( Cherry Bomb ) ? than the 30 " Long one from ( Dynomax ) ? I guess after the snow clears a bit , I can crawl under the darn thing and measure the stock muffler ... Just curious if someone knows ?

I was also wondering if I would need the 3" to 2.5 " reducer to fit the stock exhaust pipe from the front of the muffler ? I know that I would need clamps as well about the same price as the duals option after all is said and done .

Reducer ) about $17

Any input would be appreciated , just waiting for the weather to get a little better , lol Thanks in advance .

The longer glasspacks have less popping and are not as loud. Tend to sound smoother. I believe the Cherrybomb I have is 26" long. I plan on just y-piping from behind the pack eventually and putting one out either side. I have seen many people get 2.5" pipe just in front of the spare tire. There are some pics on here too of people with their dual setups. If i find any, I will post back with their name.

Thanks for the input so far guys , tried using the search feature without much luck , actually leaning towards the single 3" system with the glass pack setup , I don't think that I could complain for the price , looking for some growl , but not god awful loud at cruising speed , just looking for a little American Thunder really .

I'll post pics tomorrow but sometimes it pays to have a local shop check it out-

I had a flowmaster 40 3" in to dual 2.5" out using stock pipe and had them bend a pipe to match the drivers side. Total cost was $179.00.

Food for thought.

Plus, I HATE welding exhaust systems. I dropped the truck off to my shop and picked it up 8 hours later, after he fixed the exhaust manifold and put the flowmaster on too.

The shop is local to Adrian, MI, and the dude who runs it is real old school, rat rod builder top notch fella.

if you dont want to send to much run a 3'' single out in front of the passenger rear tire or really cheap muffler to turn down.

I run pacesetter longtubes for an f150 4x4 to a pacesetter f150 offroad no cat y pipe, to a 3'' electric cutout then to a magnaflow muffler then just turned out in front of back tire.

The cat back is pricey I have about 600 in mine from block back.

Thanks guys , much appreciated , I have been pricing Cat-Backs and the least expensive one that I have found was at Jegs , Dynomax 17355 - Dynomax Bolt-On Cat Back Exhaust Systems for Trucks and SUVs for $272. for a single 3" system , The Dual setups ? Gibson makes them and they start at around $450 from the big retailers . I was looking for the separate parts from Dynomax thinking that I could save a few bucks and still have a decent system , with a little bit of growl when I step on the gas , and perhaps raise my MPG a bit . Looks like I got lots to think about now , mucho appreciated ...

Note : I also found out that a F150 Std. Cab has a 120 " wheelbase , and the Expedition has a 119.6" wheel base , it is also the same from the block to the muffler for my year ? after looking at photos of exhaust diagrams , i have to admit that it looks the same , as I had alot of time under my truck for the 4R100 trans replacement . the F150 setup is quite a bit less , for some reason ? but since I am not sure , I am afraid to chance it . I wish I knew someone with a 1st gen F150 lols ...

2001 F150 Kit ?

Aluminized tubing , stainless tips , Flowmaster 44 , mandrel bent tubing , the whole nine yards for $215.00 shipped , on Ebay - keeps bugging me , lols

KGrHqJiwFCfdcDTtYBQoYDNZUh60_12_zps0e41f537.jpg Gibson_zpsdc716c4c.png

The tailpipe for the Expedition appears to be quite a bit shorter , almost look like it could be made to work , instead of side swept , straight out the back .. or even side swept with just a little tweaking ...

I think that I am going to grab a tape measure and have a look at the Junk yard , just a little bit of gas to find out ... I'll be back .
A tight wad ? maybe , but I could do a 4 wheel cross drilled rotors / ceramic brake pad swap with the money I save .

It depends if you're trying to accomplish look and sound or just sound. You should be able to have a local shop just swap out for a new muffler for under 100$ and leave the stock piping and tip, if you just want the sound. My setup is straight pipe from where the stock muffler was, that branches with a y pipe and goes to 2 slash cut stainless tips (one at each side) and that costed 350$ total. Or just dump it after the muffler so there isn't any visible piping coming out the back

I know what u mean as far as they should be the same but there not. the header y pipe setup i bought was for f150, worked great on headers, but once i started to put the y pipe on the transmission crossmember was in the way causing a 3 inch gap between the header and my y pipe. added a 3'' adapter which was just the right length to close the gap. Still not sure why it didnt work they have the same drive train but my best guess is the crossmember is different. setup was for a 4wheel drive as well.

Just wanted to say kudos , I guess the reason that the F150 kits are so much cheaper ? is the market , as there are a lot more F150's out there than Expeditions , and it is supply and demand as usual . It is too bad , because you can get a whole lot more for your money with the F150 setups , from the the cross member ? on my particular truck is ahead of the head pipe and from the head pipe to the muffler to the tail pipe looks like it could be done , the problem begins with the drivers side ( it is tight over the rear axle ) as there is a huge gas tank in the way . so it has to be routed clear of all fuel lines , etc... The kit I am looking at ? is a universal from the standard cab to the extended cab , ( it is going to be too long , and could possible be worked with ) anyways , it could be feasible to be put in a mandrel ( might flake off a little bit of the aluminum coating ) and work - with some additional tweaking , it would just be some labor involved . I will probably end up buying the mufflers and head to the muffler shop ( My cousin owns a chain of muffler shops in Cali - 800 miles from here ) I can do a 2 1/2 " glass pack setup , everything fits ( single ) and everything I need for $110 w/ no tip .
