I am currently running true dual straight pipes from the cats back with 2" piping coming out of 3" tips.

I want a better sound all around, and especially at idle.

Will running an X-pipe or an H-pipe give me any advantage?

I am also on the verge of replacing the rear two cats with Catco hi-flow high capacity cats as well.

You don't have to change the exhaust if you want better sound at idle... you just need a throttle body that will adjust your idle. Changing the exhaust may work with an X-pipe or H-pipe but I think the throttle body will give you more of what you are looking for at idle, but if you want all around better sound the X-pipe or H-pipe would probably be your best bet. Or you can go with an electric cut out which will change it entirely and make is very loud. :D

its all ready straight piped. so no need for cut outs. what you need is bigger tips and bigger piping. 3" pipes x-pipe with 4x16" tips. that will give you what you are looking for. if you dont have money for new pipes just get new tips. 3x16"
