My 2000 Expedition, which I bought new inSept 2000, is approaching 36,000 miles. I am looking into extended warranty, very soon.

I went to a dealer today and these were the prices I was offerred.

___________PwrTrain_BaseCare_ExtraCare_PremiumCare
6yr x 100K Mi__$835____$1170____$1475____$1695

I would appreciate your comments regarding you experience with Extended Warranty.

Thanks

I've also heard good things about Warranty Gold. They are suppose to have great coverage at competitive prices.

When I bought my Expedition I got an extended warranty at that time. I just realized its not the Ford ESP warranty, its a 3rd party warranty called MasterTech Ultra (from American Financial Warranty). Has anyone ever heard of this? The dealer never told me I was not buying a Ford warranty. I was not familiar with Ford so I thought this was their plan. Like for GM their plan is called 'MajorGuard' so I thought this was similar. Well its not and I am worried I bought some crap extended warranty. Anyone have any experience with this or even heard of it?

Sorry, but ALL contracts sold before June 6th are no longer valid. The administrator filed bankruptcy and hundreds of thousands (possibly millions) of contract holders are now without coverage. You can save money online by buying crap - and lose all of it. My advice - buy from a dealership - but negotiate the price with them. At least you have someone to blame if it doesn't workout. Go to warrantygold.com and click on the "news" button on the upper right. This will give you the background on the bankruptcy, etc.

I love how they NOW claim under the "FAQ's" that they think that having a real insuracne company, rather than a RRG or Offshore Insurance account is they way to go. If they did that in the first place - thousands of customers would still have coverage. THEY ARE STILL SELLING CONTRACTS under a new administrator!

They blame the previous administer for the financial problems - they seem to forget that they OWN that company. Shell companies, no real insurance, c'mon. Good luck....

In California, you cannot purchase after market warranty unless the company is located in California. So that rules out a lot of online exended warranties.

You can also check with your credit union, if you have one, about extended warranties.

Some FORD dealerships will also offer dealership extended warranties. In order words, it's not a part of the FORD ESP program, but similar and may be good at all FORD dealerships.
