Has anyone else experienced this? The rear end of me EXP EL is VERY bouncy, to the point that the rear wheels have actually come off the ground on the freeway. Very dangerous. It fells like I have springs, but no shocks. I have the air suspension. Is there a way to reset the suspension and if not, could it just be worn out? I have 130k miles and have done some towing of a 26' boat.

Thanks in advance, anxious to hear similar stories or solutions.

If that's in fact the case, it begs the question; replace the air suspension or convert to standard shocks/struts like the ones from suncore... There's a pretty vast difference in price between the 2 setups.
Thanks for the response.

There are arguements to both decisions... But if it were me, I would sh*tcan the air ride. I did on my '98 and have never looked back. If I wanted a car with luxury air ride suspension, I would have bought a Town Car. I bought an Expy to be a TRUCK.
But, that's just my opinion...

I've seen Navigators driving around town like that. Poor kids in the back with their hair flying in the air even over small bumps. Pretty insane. Do the spring conversion.

I agree completely with your sentiment. At the end of the day, it's a truck. I'd much rather have better road feel, less cushion, etc. As for towing capacity, with a coil-over conversion, could I expect an increase or decrease? My boat is pretty heavy, so that's a factor. About 8000 lbs. loaded and fueled with trailer.

Thanks!

I did the Rancho leveling kit for my 07 EL. You would need to replace struts at all 4 corners (because its a leveling kit - removes the nose-down rake). THe struts are loaded so you get new springs with them.

I bring this up because the Ranchos are adjustable - you can stiffen the dampening up when you are towing (or carrying a heavy load) and back it off when its just you or a lighter load.

At 130k, you may want to do all of the struts anyway regardless if you go with the Ranchos or something else.

I spoke with the folks at 4wheelparts and they said some customers claim the rancho quicklift ride is bone jarring, even at the softest setting. Can anyone comment on that?

Thanks!

I did the Monroe kit and LOVE it. Rides firm but not at all jarring, more like confident I'd say. I've had a lot of weight in a trailer, upward 7000lbs and the rear end handled it great, 0 issues other than the trailer was too light on the tongue. Other than that I tow a 5000lb tongue-heavy trailer on a bi-weekly basis and the suspension handles it perfectly. Enough squat for good handling, not enough to wish I had airbags.

If the Monroe kit is available for your generation, it's likely cheaper. Looks like part #'s 171139, 171139 are complete strut assemblies for your truck...

She looks good but not enough but for me. As Sir Mix-a-lot says, "I like big butts, and I can not lie."

I thought the "Burger King" said that a few years ago in a commercial that got pulled. lol

Is this the system you're referring to?

Rancho Suspension: Upgrade Your Shocks

Thanks!

Yes. That's the one. Unfortunately they don't offer an in-cab controller anymore. I have had it a while now. I like it a lot, especially when we're all loaded up for our trips to ME. It also makes the Expy look like an SUV rather than a station wagon.

Oh and +1 for Jessica Biel! :D
