Hello, i have a 2011 ford expedition that i need help on i am trying to find some system that i can add to it that will alarm me if a car is next to me what i would like to have is just like the blis system for ford theirs little cameras under each side mirror and they display each side on the radio.

My grandparents our starting to have issues with the cars blind spot and they have had a couple close calls so they want a system that lets them know if a car is next to them.

Is their such a thing out their or should we just buy a brand new one

Hey JetSki - there may be some BLIS systems for retrofit that are similar to what we have on our Escape where there is a yellow light in the mirror that signals when a car is in their blind spot - it uses the rear bumper radar system. On the other hand -

The low tech method is to set up the side mirrors so there is no blind spot. Try it yourself and see how it works:

With seat set in driving position:

Set up the drivers side mirror:
- Move head to driver side glass and look at drivers side mirror.
- Adjust mirror so that you can barely see (or just past) the rear side of your vehicle in the right side of the mirror.

Set up passenger side mirror:
- Move head to middle of vehicle and look at passenger side mirror
- Adjust mirror so that you can barely see (or just past) the rear side of your vehicle in the left side of the mirror.

When you see a vehicle in your rear view mirror coming up on your left or right, you should see them in your side mirror in what would normally be your blind spot. Works like a champ.

I have been driving for 45+ years and that is how I have always set up my mirrors.
You may also want to consider a pair of the small stick-on blind spot mirrors.

whats wrong with just looking over your shoulder as we were taught and they're still teaching to obtain a driver's license?

ok did some online searching. I do not have any of these and therefore not sure if any work. But you can find some cheap blis type things on ebay probably not recommended for the elderly. Here is a sight mentioned in a ford edge forum.

I think I have to agree with Freeway.

This part is my own opinion but if they can't turn their heads to look for whatever reason, then they probably shouldn't be driving.

That's what I would say but when your grandparents are 80 they can't do that as well as they could in their young days they just want something as a backup you can never be to safe and because of the way people drive today extra saftey feature are needed

I'm all about bells and whistles - I found a radar and backup cam system online the other day for like $189. I'll see if I can find it when I get home.

I had planned on getting it for my wife - she is used to driving a itty bitty car, anything that can give her a little edge when it comes to safety is worth it IMO.
