Anyone else recently received this notification on the Ford pass app? It essentially says it's a recall, but it's claiming I need to have PCM reprogram for cam phaser rattle. But I just had the entire vct/phaser fix dinner about 1500 miles ago. One would think that would've been done during service right?

sounds to me like they’re trying a programming fix to eliminate the current repair method / surgery ($. )

ill bet they now make us do ONLY the software so it makes the “noise” less noticeable.

to that i say - what about the timing chains that get so loose @ or under 50k?

I did not receive the notification. I have a May 2019 build date. I’m guessing the people receiving the message have April 2019 or earlier build dates to match up with the cam phaser TSB.

I have a July 2019 build. I got the message.

I’ve got a January 2018 build and also got the alert. I’ve never had a cam phaser problem -knocks on wood- but perhaps this will help with my rattling waste gate...ha!

I have an August 19 build 2019 and got the message. So who’s the guinea pig in the group? I’m curious how this might impact my tune. Wondering if I’d need to get an updated one from 5 Star. I’ll be holding off until I know for sure...

I wish, Ford made my l service center do the VCT/phaser fix to try and fix the rattling wastegates, and of course it didn't help at all. I was pissed they would take apart my engine when the noise was coming from underneath the car.

Might be worth reaching out to 5star ahead of time, letting them know this is coming to see if they are concerned at all. My guess is this update and the tunes tweak different things and won't cause issues, but I could be wrong.

What I find funny is I got an email, but nothing on my app. I just had mine in for an oil change last week....what timing. It's not a recall. It's a field service action. Whatever that means. Is that a TSB?

Also, I find it interesting that my app says I'm due for service in about a year or 4700 miles. Doesn't the manual say one year or 10,000 miles? Hmmm.

No notice here. I believe mine is an April 2018 manufactured 2018? Then again, I have a Canadian model. Maybe mine doesn't suffer the same issues? It is klinky at startup, but clears within 20-30 seconds.

Caught my dealer by surprise. They actually called me today to tell me that my replacement dash is still on backorder (estimate around 2-4 more weeks), and that Ford closed my rattling wastegate case, so the dealer got it reopened and escalated again. Going on 7 months for that one.

I will just get this update done once the dash is in. Get as much done in one visit as I can.

This is where some of the OTA update functionality of some other modern cars is really nice.

2018 Canadian, no message or email. I did have rattling last year and I think they did what the TSB is requiring. I’ll check the paper work tomorrow.

Just got my app notice today.....really wonder about the 5 star tune.....
Mine went in for the phaser replacement a few weeks back,they also updated the pcm. My strategy code did not change and the tune went back on without issue. If the code does change 5star will charge to update the tune.
