So the 15-17 Expedition BCM Configuration menu doesnt display this like the Fusion

ol_config_04a014fde5ad3ee5b0eb83579dcf448aa88a7e58.jpg

Yes, it displays something similar. Can’t remember which are there and aren’t. Haven’t been in that area in a while. Been tweaking Sync 3 v3.4 lately.

None of those will get you the display on the Left MFD, because the BCM does not control that in most vehicles.

I have said this SO MANY times in so many threads on here, I feel like I need to save it to post it.

The BCM has the Data, but in all other Fords of this gen that I know of the DDM controls the left MFD, and the PDM controls the Right MFD. The 15-17 Expy has neither module. The ability to display might be there, but there is no reference to know the coding. The way these changes are typically discovered is using code from a vehicle that has the feature to give it to a vehicle that doesn’t. No reference vehicle in our case. Other than literally changing random bits, It is tough to know what needs to be changed. I have tried coding from MANY other Fords of similar years.

I moved on.

I use a Kiwi 3, and mobile FORSCAN or OBDLink to display pressures and other things, like IAT1 and IAT2. It works really well. I leave it attached all the time, and connect when I want to see info.

Again, the BCM has the Tire Data and way more, and the adapter and program allow you to access it.

I think I might have a theory as to why we can't get Tire Pressure to work.

Our 2015-17 trucks are basically the same as a 2014 F150, right? I read that the 2014 F150 uses different TPMS sensors that are not compatible with later F150 models. Tire pressure display didn't become available on the F150 until 2015. And, as it turns out, our 2015-17 Expeditions use the same old-style TPMS sensors as the 2014 F150!

We used to have both a 2015 and a 2016 Explorer. As I recall, the 2016 had the tire pressure readout in the cluster but the 2015 did not. It seems Ford changed the tire pressure sensors for 2016 Explorer models.

This might explain why we have a TPMS warning light but can't get actual tire pressure readouts in the IPC. Even if the BCM has tire pressure data to drive the TPMS warning in the cluster, the data might be in a different format than what would be needed for a tire pressure display.

So, is there a workaround? Not likely. I don't know much about the TPMS in other Ford vehicles, but our 2015-17 trucks have a Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) Module that sends information to the BCM. This TPM is apparently programmed to receive data from the older style sensors. The TPM module also has an integrated antenna for the Remote Keyless Entry system (for vehicles with Intelligent Access, otherwise the RKE antenna is in the BCM). It communicates with the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) Module over a dedicated "K" line.

Hope that helps?! :)

How much info do we have on settings in the BCM? Since both older and newer vehicles send TPMS data to the BCM, I'm wondering if there is any sort of setting or control for the format of TPMS data. Vehicles with tire pressure readout may receive their sensor data from an RT (Radio Transceiver) Module instead of a TPM module. If the BCM can read this newer style data, it might be possible to enable the display in the IPC. . .

Nope. Has nothing to do with the TPMS sensors. If the BCM can see the Data. The different sensors have to do with frequency, battery life, and reset procedures.

Every vehicle with the dual MFD’s that has DDM and a PDM can display tire pressures on the left, and climate and temps on the right. Something else the Expy cannot do. That includes the Fusion/Edge platform that I have spent A LOT of time programming on.

Another thing that blows your theory out of the water. Your list above includes the 2015 Edge. It can display tire pressures in the left MFD, and actually does from the factory. What is different? It has a PDM and DDM.

There might be code, but again NO reference.

Dead horse people, dead horse. With out a ford Engineer or a reference vehicle. The reference vehicle has to have dual MFD’s and no DDM or PDM and display Tire Pressures.

I personally don’t think the code exists. The 15-17 was a stop gap/hybrid of new and old. Ford merged some newer tech and the EB motor with an old platform until the new model was ready, otherwise known as the 4th Gen.

Plug a BT module in and use FORSCAN mobile, OBDLink, Torque, or whatever your app of choice is. Works great. Plus I get to see WAY more.

Good luck spinning your wheels, pun intended!

LokiWolf .... I'm gonna apologize in advance. I know you are frustrated with us stumping this dead horse deeper in ground, But out of curiosity are these hex bit changes some of the ones you tried ?

Pretty sure. Looks like F150 coding. I was not the only one who tried to get it to work....

You are welcome to try it. If it works, awesome!

You obviously know a lot more about this than I do. I'm not trying to argue, just offer whatever I can in hopes it might help.

I also read there are two types of tire pressure sensors -- "high" type and "low" type. The 2015 f150 BCM has additional lines of code for TPMS settings that include flags for sensor type (see attached). These lines of code don't appear in my BCM so I'm guessing the older 2014 f150 BCM wasn't capable of handling more than one type of sensor, but the newer ones appear capable of handling both types.

The newer sensors also come with many new programming lines in the BCM related to TPMS features like programming the sensors (i.e. "learn") and keeping track of where each tire is on the vehicle. At least that's what I am reading from the attached.

Got this off of DanMC85's Forscan Fusion spreadsheet.

I'm on the road for work at the moment but I'll give it a try the first chance i get.

My old 2009 FSM has a section on module communication that lists all the modules, what bus they are on, and even a table of the different messages being sent back and forth over the bus with origination and destination modules. Is something like that available for any of the vehicles you mentioned that have a DDM and PDM transmitting data to the IPC? Just curious! Thanks! :)

Does it exist? Probably. Do I have it? No. Do I think it would matter? No.
