Just bought a 2000 XLT.

It has the code buttons on the door, but the dealer didn't know the code. The salesman said he'd try to contact the person that traded it in for me.

If he can't get it, how do I determine or change the code?

Pull of the kick panel on the passenger side floorboard and look up in there there should be the lock module with the 5 numbers in bold. It might be up there so look carefully and bring a flashlight. Those numbers are the master. When you have that, then you should be able to add in another one of whatever you want.
Good luck.

My code is on the computer module under the drivers side dash, near the E-brake linkage on the firewall.

I have another question: One of my buttons is dead...unfortunately it is one that I need...LOL. On the 2000's, can I change a single button, or is it the whole door module, and how hard is it to do?

the code is on the RAP module... above brake pedal on firewall.... gray.white box... sticker in the middle shows the 5 digit code....

I believe the buttons are a one piece until... seen on the f150 forums were people changed the colors of the buttons and it was a solid one piece unit...
