Guess this sound - Crackling Noise

I hear this crackling noise that seems to be coming from the drive belt area. It goes away, for the most part, when the engine warms up.
Belt Tensioner?

It doesn't sound like the worn bearings I have heard in the past.
Any ideas?

I would start by removing the belt and checking everything..alternators can make noises that don't sound like pulley bearings.

Start with what 2004XLT suggests

Don't run it very long with the belt removed.

It sounds like you have worn valve lifters. Verify the noise by using a mechanic's stethoscope.

Sounds like timing chains to my antique ears. As mentioned in an earlier reply check all the bearings that deal with the serp belt first.

How many miles are on the motor?

Thanks for the replies.
I was going to remove the belt on Saturday but it didn't make the noise. The temperature at the time was about 32 degrees. It must only do it when the ambient temperature is at or below about 25 degrees.
