I have a 98 EB 4x4 with the 5.4 in it, and it has shifted hard from 1st to 2nd since I bought it. It downshifts perfect and upshifts into all other gears perfect.

I have done some research and I am going to have the tranny power flushed, but does anyone think it could be the accumulator spring? I know that the f150'a have a problem with the Accumulator spring that causes the exact same problem and I think they have the same tranny as my Expedition (4R70W), correct?

Anyone have any ideas? could my tranny be going bad?

Sorry I didn't see this post sooner. Yes, the accumulator spring could be broken. The good news is that this is accessible without removing the valve body. You only need to drop the pan. It is held on by a snap ring that will be impossible to remove without the right pliers.
