hose leading to the rear axle on my truck has broken, and it now too short to put back on to the knuckle I'll post a link to the album where there is a picture of it. Anyway what I want to know is weather this is a big problem, should I leave it, and If i should fix it how do I do so without tearing the whole hose out?
Help Please!
and also what is the hose for because it does not leak anything even being detached

Link is not working for me.

But I believe you are refering to the vent hose. Its routed up high for 4 wheeling to help keep water out.

Typical street cars just have vent cap as the axle is never likely to get submerged. So I think you are ok unless you get the axle below water, mud, etc..

just where the vent hose goes, just get a peice of hose and replace it

it goes from the axel up to the frame with a vent cap on it so dirt and such don't get in to it

okay this was my problem too. cut the little piece of hose still attached off! then the original hose will still reach. just put a little hose clamp around it so it dosent do it again. i went out and bought a new hose and a little air filter to keep dust out, since i go to the desert. but after i did that i realized the original hose would fit just fine. it has enough length to reach. and if not cut off a little piece, take it to your local auto parts place, say you want this and how ever many feet, i recommend a little air filter. something like this. http://www.streetsideauto.com/p/spe...nt=GoogleShopping&utm_campaign=GoogleShopping this is the one i got. put the new hose in there and tighten down. all done. takes like 5 mins to do. and cost me like $16.

I ended up replacing my hose because I wanted it longer. After having water up and over the headlights a few times, I wanted something a bit taller. now my hose runs back to near the rear bumper and then up along the channel for the rear lift gate. If I get water in there now, I have much bigger problems.

If I remember right, the hose is taped to a line running up near the gas fill opening. Removing it is pretty easy. Just follow the hose and remove the few pieces of tape. Then you can route the hose where ever you want.

Ideally, you want that hose running up as high as you can and then loop it back down for a couple of inches. The loop at the top causes an air pocket and the chance of getting water in to the axle is nearly 0%. The little filter may make you feel better, but it really isn't doing anything.

ask nvy too.

i went threw the desert with it off. i found sand in places i didnt even know i had in my expo. so you could have gotten dirt and water in there. i think i got sand in mine. but nothin bad yet... you can change your diff fluid. i recommend it anyways.
