Hi, I just bought a 2000 Expedition XLT 5.4 V8. Ran good when we got it, just had an exhaust leak. Check engine light was on but the cats were deleted so we kinda expected that... Took care of the leaks, but still pulling P0155 P1151 and P0175 codes... Also began sputtering (almost like a miss but no miss codes pop up) and has little power. This is what we have tried: Spark plug non-fouls as O2 sims, cleaned the MAF sensor, new air filter, and checked for any obvious vac leaks. Right after we cleaned the MAF sensor it ran perfect so we cleared the codes. After 20 minutes of driving it began running like crap and the CEL came back on showing the above codes.... Any ideas please help????

Ok so I drove it to work because it is my only mode of transportation, first I cleared the codes. I drove all the way to work (60) miles, with no issues and no CEL. Went back out at lunch to run to the store, made it a block and the CEL came back on. It idles shaky and it continues to feel like there is a miss (still no misfire code). This comes and goes but is at its worse while idling or at a slow speed... Please help if you can

P0155 02 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
P0174 System too Lean (Bank 2)
P155 Lack of HO2S-21 Switch, Sensor Indicates Lean

Looks like most of the trouble relates to the lack of the cat and associated sensors

Will not having the cats cause it to run rough at an idle and suck gas? I checked the codes again and it only came back with P0155 and P1511.

lots of 1st gens run a cat delete with no problem. dont know exactly how to help you with your problem. but i have heard of people welding a "bung" onto the pipe and putting the 02 sensors on there out of the exhaust stream.

That's probably what's going to have to happen in this case.

You said you had checked for obvious vac leaks, but did you check the PCV valve hose at the back of the intake? That caused a rough idle in my truck and I would have never found it without this thread:

http://www.expeditionforum.com/f27/rough-idle-p0171-p0174-heres-what-you-need-check-first-4926/

May want to check that. However if you do not have O2 sensors in front of the remaining cats (I am assuming the front ones are still in place) as well as a set of 02's downstream you will get a code. The downstream sensors are not very important to the operation of the engine, I think they are there only to check that the cats are doing their job. Its the front ones that you want to make sure work.

I would also look into the IAC. Give it a good cleaning. It can cause issues at idle and I think it's used at part throttle as well.

+1 on cleaning/repalcing the IAC.
+1 on checking pcv/line, green line, and those behind/underneath behind the back of the intake.
