I went to leave for work this morning and my truck turned off, put it in neutral and started and then went a few feet and died again. At this point I had to put it in park and wait for the electric to come back and it fired up and a went in reverse and parked it.
Any idea what could be wrong? I'm replacing the battery tonight.

May want to load test the battery before dropping money into it. If you have a multimeter I can give you the steps to test it yourself.

I went ahead and put in the new battery, went for the test drive and all was well. tomorrow I will go for a longer ride and see. really wanting it to have been a dead cell or something and not have to do the alt.

Thanks stamp11127 but I had an issue with this battery before so i'm sure it was the issue.

Usually when batteries are bad they do not have enough cranking amps/voltage to start the engine. Since you were able to start yours multiple times you may want to look at the connection between the terminals and posts. They need to be clean - don't apply dielectric grease here - use a corrosion inhibitor instead.
