Long time Exploder owner. Had a 1991 Eddie Bauer Explorer and 1999 XLT. Spent a fair amount of time wrenching on them:head gasket, transmission filter (fixed shifting problem), ball joints, 4WD transfer motor, transmission (payed for that one), and a few other small things that escape me. Anyways, the 1999 fuel pump hasn't been cooperative and primes intermittently in cold weather.
I was going to get and Expedition XLT, but bought a 2017 Expedition Max Limited - it was just so damn nice. My gut tells me the XLT without all the motors and computers has less to go wrong. We'll see.
I've off-roaded the explorers pretty hard, but would feel guilty pounding on the Expedition. I'll have to get another vehicle to abuse I guess- the Subaru Forester doesn't cut it.
Cheers.
