Hey you lugs!

Has anyone had isssues with broken lugs? Check this out. I was on my way to the Ford dealership to have some work done to my truck which required it to be hooked to the computer. Upon entering the parking lot, as I made a right turn at about 10mph all the lugs sheered off of my drivers side wheel. The tire thankfully slammed into a post and stopped, which had about 50 new cars parked on the other side of it and my truck was sitting on the rotor. I had to call a tow truck to pull it into the garage where they charged me $350 to fix the ones only on that side. Didn't really have a choice? I changed the other side myself. The other day I noticed one was missing on the back of my truck. When the front broke I had just gotten off the interstate from doing 80mph. I am terrified to think what would have happened if they would have broken at that speed! It also crunched the bottom of my fender and hence my $5000 paint job. I think some big burly flares will cover that up? So, anyone have this problem, and do they make heavier duty studs, and who makes bolt on or even cut out flares that will reach all the way to the line where the fender meets the door? Any help would be greatly appreciated guys!

Dam that sucks. At least your okay. Idk about heavy duty studs but the stock studs should be okay as long they are torqued to specs. Which is something like 80-110 lbs. I keep mine at 100. As for fenders check out bushwacker they might make something.

your gonna run into problems with the back flares... but up front you can use F150 flares... otherwise you can go with non-pocket style flares... there are some cheap ones on ebay... they are labeled as a different company but they are the EGR flares... a 6 peice set up.... as for lugs can't say I have had a problem... but now I wanna go check...lol glad you are ok

Just a FYI, the newer ones require 150 ft/lb.

Have you taken the wheels off recently? By sheared, I take it the threads were gone from either the bolts or the nuts?

I'm sure there are lots of reasons for a wheel to fall off and/or lugs to shear. In my life I've only had that happen once, and it was because I did not tighten the lugs properly. No big deal, I was only going 45 when it fell off on a stretch of open road. I had a heck of a time finding the wheel in the corn field.

this happened to my uncle while we were on the fordyce trail. just got off this difficult section of trail and was crusin doing about 10 heading towards an area where ive been before. and all of a sudden BANG we lean over. the front left tire came off and was under us. the guy behind us was like i thought i saw something shiny comming off your jeep. his name is bling bling cause he has a green and chrome jeep. so figures he would see something shiny. but all good. used the high lift and all better.

By sheared I meant that they all broke off. All 5! Went back and found all 5 from the entrance of the dealership to where the wheel fell off and they the studs were still screwed into them all? Overtightened perhaps?

i would say over tightening. if you didnt take the wheels off and had a company do it take them the bill! they are not allowed to tighten wheels with am impact. if you did it. then sorry. at least your okay.

mine arnt after market, but im so **** about my wheels that after i take my baby for an allignment and tire rebalancing... note to self, bfgs=pain for balancing, i go home and take off all the lugs and do it my self. some are super easy to take off while others i need to get the 5 foot pipe we have. seriously we keep one around cause of these idiots. my uncles jeep was so bad one time we used the pipe and two people. im surprised the bolt was still on.
