HID relay?

ok...so i bought the Spyder halo/LED headlights with HID kit. per the company its a recurring problem for one of the lights to not work and they have provided a relay. ok, i figured out everything to the batter and to the ballast. i'm left with a positive and negative wire (not for battery)...where does it go? cant take post pics...laptop is messed up.

The standard relay connections are:


85 Ground

86 12v + from headlight switch


30 12v + from battery


87 12v + to headlight



85 and 86 are usually interchangeable on 4 pin relays

ok...thats like speaking DARI...i'll try to post pics tomorrow...i have pos/neg to battery...i have pos/neg for ballast...then i have 2 more lead wires with 2 flat male ends...pos/neg and these are what im confused about...


ok...so i read the directions again and i think i understand now...i believe i am to connect these wires to the pos/neg of the head light switch...

with that being said...i already have my halo/LEDs connected to the lights pos/neg so they are on when i turn the lights and parking lights on...can i connect these to the same source at the same time? or should i wire them together with the halos/LEDs?

If I'm understand it correctly, those 2 tabs are supposed to go in the OEM connector. Normally they are supposed to be a female connector (with the 2 male tabs in there), but some companies cheap out and just have the 2 tabs.

Does your relay kit look something like this:


1 and 2 in the pic go to your ballast.
3 & 4 are the positive on battery and ground.
5 is the "signal" input and hooks up to one of the OEM bulb connections (of the bulbs you are replacing, usually the closest to the battery)

This is what 5 should look like on the inside.

Yea, you technically don't have to. I was having issues, though, with one side not turning on. Doing the relay inproved it, though it would still happen.

The relay got corroded, and switch to a Bosch one. Seemed to help a lot. Now only once in a blue moon does it do it.

ok...yes this is what i have...but No5 is loose wires with for the signal input with female connectors (different sizes) instead of the connector end you have...

That #5 plug would plug into the wires on the trucks wiring harness that normally plug into the headlight. That is what tells the relay to turn on and off.

Your HID kit for your model of expedition should be plug and play, you unplug the the old bulb, plug the ballast in your plug and hook the hid bulb into the ballast, thats it. The HID harness I see in the picture is the same one I have for my 89 corvette which requires it to be hook to the battery and go through a relay which controls both lamp, and it uses H4 bulbs. My expedition use 9005 and 9006 for the headlamp. I think you have the wrong setup for your model.

you're correct...it is plug n play but my driver side light never came on...the company says this is there fix for this problem...if it still doesnt work i'll get my refund and get OEMs retrofitted and painted with CCFLs...still waiting on quote from lightwerkz.com

The relay setup will work on all vehicles and eliminates any extra start up load on the factory harness. It also usually resolves the issue with only 1 light coming on.

thats what i was told...but i may part with it if i dont like the light output...since i have HID in the stock lamps...im loving the output...i turn my brights on to see what happens and it deminshes the output...i want black lamps so they might be up for sale next week if im not feeling them...anyone interested let me know if you want them.
