I replaced all my coil packs a couple of years ago with 8 supposedly new coil packs from Ebay for 75. They worked great for a while then the truck developed a hesitation at low idle from about 800 to 1000 RPM you could feel it stumble a little when parked then pick right back up fine at 1200 rpm.

Luckily I had kept the OEMs packs as replacements and put them back with the new boots from the Ebay mistake and the truck idles fine now.

You get what you pay for.

What he said.. lol.

They are from different manufacturers. There are a few others as well.

I use OEM cops myself.

I would stay with Motorcraft. I'm running stock coils at 19psi on the cobra and it works just fine.

Double check the buyer before handing over the money.

Any brand name would be most likely fine. I purchased the generic great deal COPs and got what I paid for.

Accell , Ford, Delphi any guaranteed brand name should work pretty well, I would not buy any good as COPs, I have a mix of FORD and Standard / NAPA and they are working fine

My local Ford dealer wanted $110 per coil so I bought Delphi from Rock Auto for $35.

I agree with the above comment. Skip the super cheap no name brands but any name brand should be fine.

On my past 99 I had a bad boot that was causing a misfire The boot had a pin-hole burn in it Always best to change boots/spring when changing plugs Most new coils come complete with new boots/springs

The problem with putting on any cheap electrical parts, is you never know if their going to work right off the bat, and when their going to fail. I'd rather take a chance on a used Ford cop, to replace a known bad one with corresponding code, than put 8 iffy ones on. Remember the wearable item is the boot. It's like a small spark plug wire, that does deteriorate with time. Coils also fail, but usually due to vibration, or being contaminated by oil, or coolant. In all the years I've worked on cars/motorcycles, I've only had 4 bad coils fail. And that was servicing over 2,000 vehicles. The beauty of computer controlled vehicles these days, is the computer tells what cylinder is malfunctioning. You can buy a $25.00 scanner that will tell you. Let us know what you find.

thanks for the reply. it ended up being cylinder 5. the shop also pulled the plug for inspection, as well as #6, which i thought was brave. I had them replace the coil, and i'm off and running, no CEL on.

See that's why you do the diagnostic. Instead of wasting money on cheap coil set, you replace just the bad one, with a quality part. Glad it's running right.

thanks for the encouragement!

Don't do it. Some original coils have been known to go the life of the vehicle. If this happens again you can run a diagnostic or have a parts store do it. It's usually free. Then figure from the code which cylinder, they run pass side front to back, 1234, and 5678 on drivers side. It takes 5 minutes to bolt up a coil with wire. You can imagine what diagnostic and part change costs at a shop.Glad it's running right.

I bought some cheap ECCPP coil packs off amazon and frankly they work just fine. I seem to get about the same mileage most people report and I have no misfires. For the most part they have good reviews. yes they are super cheap. But then again, at that price if one goes bad you can replace it. I have a few thousand miles on these now. The link to the ones I bought have been updated. Some people report issues, but so far they have been fine.
