I'm very glad I bought the lisle tool.

Changed all but my rear plugs. My arms are too fat to reach them lol. And I was stressed the heck out after replacing the front 6. Several of them the thread jacket/hex nut broke loose from the porcelain but just sat in the cylinder spinning and even grabbing them with needle nose plyers, i just could not pull them out. Just took lots of tinkering. Cylinder 2 it took me 2 hrs just to get the top half out before I could even use my lisle to extract the bottom half. But the truck runs like new even without replacing the rear two. But a buddy mechanic is going to get those out for me soon.

I do have an exhaust leak behind my cat that makes a ticking when cold. But that's a easy enough issue to deal with.

I've shown a couple people these pics and they can't believe this was a spark plug.

Yes, they don't see that slogan anymore. BETTER IDEA!!!!, OMG

yes, the lisle tool, 65600 is a must for 2nd gen 3V FORDS. It works very, very well.

Come on Trucker, you can get those big meats back there. I did and I am 6'5". Oh but my hands are small:O)

The back plugs are often left not changed, thats why I told others on this forum who have bought recently to check them, especially the first gen who like to shoot them out. Thats a tough spot to get to fix threads. Glad you are getting a friend in to help

Wouldn't be so bad if the porcelain broke, and left a solid hex part to pull with the socket, but nooo!

I was really lucky on mine, #2 and #6 broke so easy access and the plug came out with all except the very bottom piece that gets stuck in the hole. The tool pushed it down easily and then the extractor got them out, very easy. A tool needed for anyone owning an early 3v who do their own work.
The spark plug replacement was actually pretty easy, much better then I thought it would be when looking at this 05 engine. Now the 10 my kids just bought is wide open. Even on that passenger side its easy to get to the valve cover and plugs. So when their phasers die I told my son it will be an easy job.

Lol. I'm just scared if those two give me the same level of trouble a couple others did, then I'll be screwed lol. So just figure I'll let someone else deal with them for only 45 bucks lol. It's worth not getting so stressed lol.

The back ones are terrible for sure. I was lucky, the second one in from the front broke. Even the back 2 cylinders doing the lash adjusters and followers were done by the braille method. Reach and hope, well and cuss. Even my dog left the garage as he couldn't take it..... I had to use mirrors to view down into the spark plug hole and lash adjuster holes to make sure they were clean and no burrs. Also used a mirror to view the valve cover gasket after setting the cover on to make sure still attached and aligned. These engines are a challenge for everything.

Ford must have hired Satan himself to design the engine/ chassis combo back in 95-96, for the new 97 Expedition. He said I promise lots of profits, for the next 20 years. I'll move you guys away from that cold Detroit climate, down to where I live, where it's warm!

Yep, and make it so even Ford mechanics hate working on them. All 3 American made versions have the engine half under the fire wall and related structures. At least the older engines were out where you could get to them for the most part on their truck series. My 89 Bronco with the 302 you could hold a dance around the engine. The only thing obtrusive on them was that early intake manifold chunk of aluminum.

And the later f150's like 2015, have nothing in the way. What would be great is if they made a removable fire wall.

Yes, the 2010 Expedition my kids just bought is wide open. I guess they finally figured out they had a problem and needed access. And wrapped the fire wall with foil backed insulation, soooo pretty

im a smaller guy with popeye forearms so ive always had it easy when it comes to tight space work like vehicles... but i recently lost two fingertips in a work mishap (woodworking) so i cant touch, feel or grip anything with my right hand.... probably for a good long time.... anyway i recently bought an EBAY china USB inspection camera that works right on my smartphone or a laptop... less than 15 bucks... its certainly not a top of the line thing you could probably get away with sticking in a drain or something.... but suprisingly it works as well as the junk OEM brand inspection camera i rented from autozone that is like 150$. LoL. i havent stuck it down the cylinder yet to see if the led light and focus are worth a doodie, but even if not, or even if it stops working after a few uses.... it was worth it just to be able to get a good view around back of that miserable long block. lol

Hard work is good for the heart and soul, but hell on your body when you get older

I viewed the other post. Lock-tight up some new bolts and call it love story. Check motor mounts to make sure they are not broken. If the rig was used mellowly any damage would be fairly unlikely.
Good luck

Same here I have a 2007 Expedition Limited 5.6v. I used the Listle tool , this forum, and youtube to have the confidence to get them out. Keep in mind I have never changed a spark plug in my life or even changed my oil however I am very mechanically inclined and can build just about anything . So I ran before I walked when it comes to the infamous 2 piece of shit Ford Sparkplug. I removed the front 6 and 3 of them broke and took me all weekend. The last 2 against the firewall I didnt attempt . I watched this video to get it done . .

Ford wanted over $ 1000.00 to replace. CRAZY.

If you take the one bolts off and lay it down also take the bracket off their is a lot more room to get the passenger back two wit out any problems makes a whole lot of difference.
