I have a 2000 XLT. The key no longer works in the driver's door. It'll turn but nothing happens. So for now I can't lock my truck. Any ideas?

Warranty?

Does either of the two remote key fobs work to lock the doors and hatch?

Does it possibly have to do with freezing? I've had problems with door not opening or not staying closed due to freezing cold weather. Does the door lock work from inside? I've manipulated the manual door lock and or latch and sprayed lock lubricant in keyhole in the past to help. No fob but does it have a keypad? You can unlock electrically with that. I've tried manipulating everything in series including parking in a garage to warm up.

But if I had to guess I'd say (guess) something in the mechanical linkage came undone.
Try pouring a warm yellow liquid on it. Laugh but it worked in ski area parking lot.

The door lock mechanism is connected to the cylinder with metal rods held with plastic clips. You have to pull of the inside panel and see what's not connected. My bet would be the little crank on the cylinder is slipping. You may need a new lock cylinder which can be bought and keyed to match the old one.

The problem is that you'll have to pull the panel once to see what's going on, once again after you get the new parts. And you may have to pull the passenger side door panel to see what it's supposed to be like if you can't figure it our. Not hard, just a bit of work for something so simple.

Good info above. It's probably mechanical as Trainmaster said. It stinks when this stuff happens to you, but considering that it's a relatively inexpensive mechanical part that was regularly used for 20 years it's bound to have something wear out. Good luck!
