Starting a new thread for what I "hope" is going to be an easy fix. For those following my airbag troubleshooting here https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/airbag-light-on-2008-expedition-xlt.38135/ You already know I'm a bonehead and dropped my key transceiver last night and buggered it up. It cracked open when it hit the floor and the antenna unwound all over the place. I "thought" since the wire antenna was not cut I could just pack it all back in but when I put the module back in place I get the error code that the motor is shut down due to a PATS error and then another code for a transceiver fault. The truck was running fine before i broke the Transciever I now have a new one on order which should show up tomorrow at my local dealership but here's the million dollar question:

Do I need to do any sort of re-programming once I put this new Transceiver in? I've been reading all across the internet and even talked to 2-3 ford dealerships and gotten mixed answers. Most of the answers have been NO, but still got a few "likely so". Just wanted to see if anybody here had done this before? The PATS module and the Keys are staying the same. From what I understand the Transceiver just reads the chip on the key and communicates with the module...no programming required. But I've also read all 3 devices have to come from the same car...which doesn't make sense if all this thing is doing is reading a chip.

Dealership can match keys.

I was going to be smart and take the big bulky end off the key so it would fit inside my wallet for a emergency spare. Yes, I broke the electronics. I went to my local hardware store for a spare. They had keys. I did use a good key for them to match but I now have a new key that does not fit my wallet and much cheaper than dealership.

Good luck!

THats the thing...im not changing keys, im not changing the anti-theft module. I'm just replacing the transceiver which supposedly just "reads" the chip in the key and passes the information along. Along that line of logic if it's just a reader of information then it should just be a drop in part and will allow me to start my truck again. instead of having to pair it to the truck

Hi guys. just wanted to update this thread. I went into my local Ford dealership and got 10 mins with their master tech. Transceiver does not need to be programmed. if keys and PATS module stay the same you're golden. Transceiver just reads the key. Hope this helps somebody down the road!

100% confirmation no programming required if the transceiver goes bad. I just put in the new part and it fired right up

Gary

It clips directly to the steering column and is a loop that encircles the lock cylinder. it would look something like this
111903317537
wires plug into the back of it and then when the key is turned the wire coil in the loop energizes and reads the data off the chip in the key and passes it along to the PATS system to authenticate and then allow the car to start. I wish I had taken a couple photos of mine but its pretty obvious where/what it is once you pull the plastic shrouding off the steering column
