So I have a 2007 Expedition EL LTD.. It had an aftermarket Compustar remote start installed when I bought it and has worked great for 2 years.

I recently had to buy new remotes (old ones broke) and programmed them to work with my Expy.

Everything worked fine at first (for about a week) until I remote started it one day, and forgot to put the key in and hit the brake before hitting the gas. This caused the car to shut off (as it should), but it also seems to have triggered something in the Expy anti-theft module.

As of now, I can start the car fine with the remote start, but the actual ford key that came with the car, will no longer start it. When I try to start the car normally without the remote start... when i turn the key, the accessories turn on, and everything seems fine until I get to the START position. On the dash I can see a red picture of a lock and key flashing very quickly, but the car won't start.

How do I get the darn Ford key to start my car (just a regular, old school.. turn the key and car starts)?
Is there a way to reset the anti-theft to let it know my key is a good key previously paired with the Expy?

Update

So I disconnected the negative battery terminal.. waited about 5 min... then reconnected the battery, locked/unlocked the doors with remote... locked/unlocked door with key... then it started fine with the key.

I later tried the remote start again and it started with that also, but the key stopped working again. So I went through the battery disconnect/wait/reconnect again and the key once again works.

I'm afraid to try the remote start again. It's as if the remote start is triggering the PATS system to disable the Ford key from working. If anyone knows a way around this I'm all ears. In the meantime, I'm just going to use the remote to lock/unlock doors and start it with the Ford key.

I never have these issues with my 1967 Mustang's simple metal key! Damn you technology!

Sounds like the remote start PATS interface is the problem. Is it the old school kind where they used an actual key stuffed under the dash, or is it an aftermarket interface that maybe needs to be reprogrammed, or did they use the Ford PATS interface ring around the ignition ??
Do you have the manual for the Compustar Remote Start ?

Stamp 11127 - The remote is a Compustar 1WG3R-SH. I'm guessing the brain is a 5200 or 6200? IDK for sure as it came with the Expy when I bought it.

RI-MATT - I think you're right. By using the battery disconnect and reset option, I have been able to use the key for the past week or so. I forgot the other day at the boat launch and used the remote start... which effectively disabled the key again. I did the battery disconnect-re-connect again, and now I can use the key.

As for the old key inside style, I'm not sure.

I know that remote and the PATS system CAN play nice together because it worked fine for the past 2 years before replacing the remote (old remote was the exact same as new).

I think I'm just going to try and use the key exclusively for the summer and bring it to a remote install guy near me before the cold weather starts to see if he can get the remote AND PATS system to work.
