I upgraded my headlights to LED and would like to do the same for the high beams. Unfortunately, due to the size of the fans on the LEDs, they will not fit into the housing and still allow the rubber cover that protects them from the weather will not fit.

Has anyone come up with a solution?

Thanks in advance.

I personally wouldn't use drop in leds due to poor output but theretrofitsource.com sells rubber replacement caps. However the cap would then enclose the fan unless you cut it open and silicone it shut with the fan sticking out

I used leds and the output is great. Best $45 I've spent. Don't have them for high beams as I never use them

Sure they are whiter than a halogen but that doesnt make them brighter. Also not putting light where it belongs makes them a waste of money and causes less visibility than you had with halogens. Its fact and plenty of science to back that up. Leds don't belong in a halogen reflector or halogen projector!

I tried two different kinda but had the same problem. The only thing that might work are the kind that has the braided heat sinks on them. I just kept the stock halogen bulbs for the high beams because I rarely use them.

I don't care if they belong or not and its my money to waste not yours. Since you're in an 07 and I'm in a 17 I can tell you the oem halogens in the new models with projectors are horrible. Light output is minimal and been a major complaint from myself as well as other owners on here. I guess that would explain the amount of LED and HID upgrade threads. Science can back up your statement on paper sure but you certainly have no idea what my eyes can see and I know for a fact that my LEDS are brighter, whiter, and put out way more light then the oem halogens did. I can see further down the road and nobody has flashed me yet because I'm blinding them. So for me LEDS have been a great upgrade

I never said you couldn't install leds just saying your not gaining anything even though you think you are. Also a projector in your 17 will out perform a halogen reflector in my 07 all day even if it is a subpar projector. Which is why I did a retrofit. Good luck I hope it meets your expectations

As for seeing all the hid and led threads it's because people either don't know or just don't care. All these companies are misleading everyone and they are flying off the shelves because of false claims on the manufacturers part.

Yes I used these:https://www.theretrofitsource.com/closeouts/closeouts/funky-housing-cap.html
in conjunction with the caps that came with the LEDs to make a solution. I still have the unmodified Ford ones.

it took a bit of trimming with some siccors and an exacto blade. Then I used some fast ties/zip ties around the houseing lip and the newly constructed covers.
No issues with clearance or water in the housing.

just saying your not gaining anything even though you think you are.

So you're calling me a liar or saying I'm not really seeing what I think I'm seeing. Dude the leds are a better performing light in my particular application. If they weren't then I would switch back to halogens. I'm not going to sacrifice safety or lack of visibility just to have a "cool" looking headlight. Stop arguing with me and just accept I think they're better for me. If someone else gets the same results great. If not so be it.

I installed LEDS with the built in fans and had no trouble fitting them under the rubber caps. I remember buying them very soon after buying my truck last Nov and one recently died so I'm waiting for the replacement set but they have been a huge upgrade to me....FWIW

Best bang for the buck at 26 bucks!

gixer gets into it with everyone who puts LEDs or HIDs in the stock projector headlights. We mixed it up when I put my HIDs in back in February.

Updated to show the correct H11 highbeam bulb

Something like this might work because it will fit inside the housing and it looks like it will not hit the edge.

This is another style that might work as well.

I Don't recall you getting worked up over it Like others do. We had a little debate and could clearly see in your pictures they weren't ideal but functioned how you need them to.

As for the others getting worked up over factual information, I'm just passing it along. I'm a lighting nerd and know the difference between performing correctly and not. Everyone just thinks brighter/whiter is better and thats not the case. Bulbs need to distribute light into the projector or reflector correctly to have proper output. Leds do not do that yet!

I wasn't picking on you gixer. I value your input. Because of one of your recommendations, I swapped out the 55W HIDs and went with the standard 35W HIDs.

I know man but I was just demonstrating how you took my comment vs how everyone else gets defensive. It's like I'm here throwing personal attacks but all im trying to do is help.

Thank you for the suggestion. Would you be able to provide any more details on what you did exactly?

I'm gathering some are having issues fitting the cap on with this type? How can that be? Mine slid right back on. I originally ordered the type with the braided heat sink but that's before I realized that the connection WASN'T the HB11 as the manual states but is instead, the HB3 connection. When I reordered, I got this type and they worked until one died, replacements now at the PO today.
