my luck...put new snow tires on and its nearly 60F out! no snow in the forecast for at least a week 1/2. now that could all change tomorrow but as of now its a oddly warm fall.

i did wash the expy last night only to have it rain today :(

How big of a difference are snow tires from an all season

like night and day, black and white, ying and yang.

until you drive with both you may thing all seasons or A/Ts are fine for winter, they are not! at least not here anyhow.

real snow tires will give you more traction then you could ever imagine was possible on glare ice/snow pack..ect

The rubber they're made of doesn't harden as much in freezing temps, so they get a better grip than all seasons. Plus the tread pattern is usually more aggressive.

We're required by law here in Quebec to use snow tires from Dec 15 to March 15. I just keep them on all year long, because I'm too lazy/cheap to pay for two sets of tires and because I don't put that much mileage on the truck anyway, so not too worried about the snow tires wearing off faster in summer. To be honest, I didn't even notice them wearing off faster in the summer. They seem to be wearing off as much as my all seasons were.

The law demands snow tires (from first of december and last of mars) here in sweden, and it think thats a bless. To many amateurs ends up in the ditch. I use Hakkapeliitta with studs.

very good tires, i know alot of people who run studded Hakkapelitta's

i have 3 different sets, the new blizzak studdless. Cooper M+S studded and firestone winterforce studded. all of them are fantastic. lots of siping and soft rubber compound make for a very sticky tire.

having crazy warm weather still, so after getting the Oldsmobile back from the transmission shop and with a fully rebuild tranny they said to put some miles on it and bring it back for a check and you get your warranty paperwork...sooo i decided to take her on a little road trip yesterday. about 120 miles all said and done.

I like snow... but not too much, just enough "lagom" as we say in sweden.

1998 it was a bit too much, this is footage from the middle part of sweden. A blizzard hit the area 60 miles north from were i live

what i have to look forward to

Haha I share your sentiments on round-a-bouts... No one here gets how they work, they just barrel in there regardless if there is a car coming round. We just had a little dusting of snow today in MN. Only a matter of time before the first 2 foot storm of the year. Are you a snowmobiler?

Pass some to the South! Sorry, I missed the response to my question... That's a nice little sled. Old Yamaha if I am not mistaken. Good little work sled and probably a good time on trails too. Not sure how trail-oriented Alaska is though.

The rule my family lives by probably doesn't apply to you, but we always say you can see things on a sled that you would never otherwise see. They just let you get places that are impossible any other way. However seeing the pictures you post up just driving in your backyard trump anything we see here anyways haha.

Finally some snow. The blizzard that hit southern parts of Sweden, seems to miss my town. But maybe one feet of snow could be expected to saturday morning. Then i finally will get a chance to test the 4wd :)
03:45 AM and the sun has dropped...

Arkansas here, rain sleet, ice and everything fun all over the roads. Even if my '00 4.6 is a 2wd I was trumping these 4wd vehicles today. Seriously though, picked up a new set of Bosch wipers today for autozone. best wipers ever. The blades are Driver and passenger side specific, I can never go back.

Also, Hankook tires FTW.

Posted this in the regional board already, but since it came up here I'll post it again.

Snow-1.jpg

This was here at work Monday after 4 hours. The blizzard only started when I arrived at the office.

Here's a shot of downtown on the drive home

I know I'm a little late, but welcome to alaska! I use all season tires on my cars except one that came with studded and they all work good. Just have to give people enough space and brake earlier. Hope you're ready for the cold weather. I don't have a block heater or autostart either. You can get away with not using it as long as you let your car warm up for a minute before you drive it. Last year we have a few heat waves where everything started melting then snowed again. It's really odd for me to see temps fluctuate from -20 to 40 and back within a week or two.

Oh sorry I thought you just moved up here ;).

Gotta love that cloud blanket we have right now :D. Makes it a nice and toasty 32 degrees!

I'm envious of your garage! Looks like you have a lot of space in there. I only have a 2 car, but with all my stuff it only fits one and the Yukon XL barely fits in.
