My Salesman Called today...

My salesman called today and told me that they have a 2018 Lincoln Navigator for $88,000 in stock. I asked him if that was a Black Label and he said no it was Reserve and it is at their north store. He said they weren't a Black Label Lincoln dealer I didn't realize that you had to be a Black Label dealer to sell one.

I told him that is a little out of my range but call me when you get a 2018 Limited Max in stock, not that I'm going to buy it but I still want to drive one.

I would go and at least drive it. When I’m thinking about a car I personally like to drives ones both more and less expensive than my target price. That way I get a better sense of value.

Who knows, after driving that bad boy you may think the Lincoln is a bargain for all the extras you get... [emoji4]

I bought my first house for a little more than that. 5 years later I sold it for more than I bought it for. And I got to write off the interest on my taxes each year.

My first house was $42,000 back in 1980. I sold it 7 years later for $57,000

Who knows, after driving that bad boy you may think the Lincoln is a bargain for all the extras you get...

Even if the gave me full price for my 2017 and no depreciation with 5600 miles on it, I would still have to come up with another $22,000 my wife would never ever allow me to do that and I've been married long enough (31-1/2 years) to know better than to ask.

I couldn’t agree more. $88,000 for a depreciating asset that makes you no money but costs you money. Also will depreciate over $20,000 per year. And on top of it we all know the loaded up ones start breaking like it’s their job after the first five years.

But you have a 2017 that meets your needs! If you have some money you need to waste frivolously, why not keep the 2017 and some really fine whiskey or nice wine collection? If that's not doing it for you, you should consider sending me $12k and patting yourself on the back for saving $10k. If it were me, I'd add the dealer's phone number to the blocked list and unblock it in 5 years... Ok, me, personally, I'd unblock it in 10 or 15 years, but I keep my vehicles a long time.

...and milk used to cost a nickel, lol. Yes there’s been inflation everywhere for sure, but I do think the price of these full frame, large SUVs has outpaced the rate of inflation a bit. But as long as we’re willing to pay $60k, $70k, and $80k +, there doesn’t seem a way to stop it. It’s a marketplace. I guess if all potential customers decided to drive small econoboxes, Ford, GM and others would drop the prices...but that’s not going to happen, at least not in this country, lol.

They're just matching (actually still a little under) the prices of the past/current segment leaders. This price level is nothing new, and hasn't really seemed to curb consumer appetite. Yeah it's high "for a Ford" but these new vehicles compare very favorably to GM's offerings.

Well $88,000 is not bad by Escalade profilers......a few more deals and they can probably make the down payment and one or two more monthly payments before the Navigator ends up back at the dealer lot and the former owner is on a "vacation" for a few years if society is lucky.

Yeah, I get the impression that the previous versions of the Expedition has been Ford trying to beat the GM products on price while still matching the specs. If you look at the sales numbers, the market spoke and said it didn't really care about the price. With the 4th gen, I get the impression Ford has changed their strategy to match GM on price and offer a better product.

Combined with the low interest rates (I got 2.2% on my recent 2017 Expedition purchase) it is simple for the bad guys to get their vehicle "status bling" as easily as a few big gold chains, almost to the point of being stereotypical.
Probably the actual price spread between nearly identical new Expeditions and Navigators will only grow (my Expedition Limited after rebates and discounts took a $62,900 unit down to a new (before trade) price of $48,900 then gave me more money for my Acadia trade than GM would!

I had no clue that there are enough drug dealers to be targeted as a sales demographic by the big three.... I must be missing the sarcasm somewhere but it’s early and I haven’t finished my coffee yet.
