Im removing my spectre intake kit, since installed Ive noticed a DROP in fuel mileage and also it seems like its just too much air for the engine to make use of.

so Im looking at better kits, these are my opotions

VOLANT
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/VNT-19854/

or

TRUE FLOW
http://performancelifts.com/cgi-bin/cart/TRU20500.html

which one do you guys think is better? Im leaning twoards true flow because i can utilize the gotts mod (maybe add bakers mod to it too) and the maf will be sealed inside again.

also Im thinking about getting a jet mass air flow sensor. would it be worth adding that if i do go with the true flow setup?

I had the Volant on an 03 Screw and did not realize what a difference it made until I took it off. I am considering one for my 06, but I may be upgrading expys soon. I have never used the true flow-but was very happy with the Volant (aside from the fact that the directions were horrible). Hope this helps, Mike

how much did it help with gas mileage? the only downside of volant is replacement filters are expensive as hell, i saw them on their website and its like $110.00 for a filter.

I believe it only gave me about a half mile per gallon better. But the throttle response was a lot better. I do not drive very conservatively though. I do not recall ever changing my filter out. I believe you can get the power core filter now which is a dry filter you can just blow out. I think it came with a wet filter - but do not recall. the powercore was not available then.
Thanks, Mike

with any cai i recommend a dry filter if you are doing 90% pavement. out in dust areas i recommend an oiled filter. so your best bet is to change to a dry filter when you get it. i would still go for the volant just because its cheaper and more well known.

thanks mike I appreciate your input, and panda yea Im definetly gonna get a dry filter but about volant being cheaper...yea I dont know where you live lol, seriously I found the true flow setup for like 160 on amazon.com, best I could find for volant is 200, the advantage of true flow is you can use the gotts mod though which i know will suck in all the air it could need. what you have in your truck panda? i see you have a k and n but is the intake stock?

well I installed my true flow intake today, came around 3pm with UPS, looks real good and if anyone has any questions about throttle response all I can say is HOLY SH*T!!!!! I AM NEVER USEING AN OPEN ELEMENT AIR INTAKE SYSTEM AGAIN!!!! I dont believe how much better the throttle response is and it sounds a hell of a lot meaner then before my exhaust is louder now also. if any of you are considering getting a true flow intake just get it its well worth the money, ill have some pics up either later tonight or tomorrow.

OH and btw Im using the GOTTS mod with the set up, so I thing the gotts mod and this intake is the ultimate set up you can have on these trucks :big_banana_Dance:

The gotts mod? Basically pull out your air intake box, u know the cone that gose into the fender, well u replace that piece with a less restrictive 3 inch diameter pipe and then put the air intake back togther. U get throttle response and exhaust gets throatier. I also installed a true flow intake, which works with the stock air box, my mpg went from 9.5 in the city up to 13 mpg now. U will see great results

the baker mod, well thats bakereditions add on to the gotts mod. what you do is run a duct from the gotts mod down to the bumper and u basically make your intake into a ram air intake set up. thats proubaly the best way to maximize your air flow

if im not mistaken , the spectre is 4" piping which is too much airflow for a 5.4 gas motor. When i build my diesel intakes, they are 4" and turbo diesels require a bit more air. We have a 3.5" system on the expedition and it is more than adequate, still overkill if you ask me.

There is nothing higher octane can do to you expy except give better economy and run better I always recommend premium gas in ANY vehicle even the lawn mower!

X100!

I know what the owners manual says to run, but i also know that when running 87 octane it gets poor fuel economy and has less power, running 93 octane it makes the most power possible and now with my new intake setup I drive like maybe 75 miles per week, before i was makeing it down to half a tank, now in one week i barely pass the first quarter of the tank! Im very happy with the fuel econoy and performance it has now...... Wait until I get my edge evo and run it on the tune that calls for 93 octane hehehehehehe :flamingdevil:
