Hey guys, I'm new here on the forum - just joined today. I recently bought a 2010 Expedition EL XLT and am looking for tires. It has Big-O BigFoot A/Ts that are worn down pretty far and I want to replace them before getting too far into winter. It's on pavement a lot, but we do go off-road (AZ/UT trails) and we do get a lot of snow here. So I'd like a fairly aggressive all-terrain type tire that's not too noisy on the road (maybe the BFGs are out of the running) and but still perform well when the beefy tires are needed.

I checked Discount Tire and a few local places, and then I stopped by Costco and found out they have some good sales on their tires now and have some good Black Friday sales coming up next weekend. Here are the prices below and these are mounted, balanced, tax, everything out-the-door prices.

Any opinions on these, or should I go a different route altogether?

Bridgestone Dueler A-T Revo 2
P265/70/17 $740.99 (sale price)
LT265/70/17 (E) $877.63.99 (sale price)

Michelin X-Radial LT2
P265/70/17 $973.25 (Black Friday discount)
LT265/70/17 (E) $1003.14 (Black Friday discount)

Michelin LTX M/S 2
LT265/70/17 (E) $980.11

Michelin LTX A/T 2
P265/70/17 $990.33
LT265/70/17 (E) $1020.22

BFG AT KO
P265/70/17 $1020.22

A also looked at Hankook Dynapro ATM, Cooper Discoverer AT3, and Wrangler DuraTrac. I've had all of those on Jeeps and Suburbans, but wanted to take another look and see if I should take advantage of the Black Firday and other sales for Bridgestone or Michelin.

Any advice? What would you go with?

We run all Cooper tires in my family. My folks like the AT3's that they have on one of the Expeditions. I really like my S/T Maxx's. Whatever you do I would go with the LT option, especially if you do off road. Don't want to be driving over sharp rocks with a 4-ply tire haha.

How much rougher will the ride be on the LT's? Super noticeable?

I have the Michelin LTXMS2's-really enjoy & quiet compared to the OEMs. Probably not quite what you would want for off-road per se.

You can also try tirerack.com for comparison data. I ordered my replacement trailer tires from them, had in two days, then worked the best deal in town for mounting, balancing, disposal etc. Kept the best tire for a spare.

Why no BFG's? I had them on a couple of my truck and I loved them. I know they can be a bit $$$$$, but they're good on road and good off-road.

The last set of BFG All Terrains I had were great except for in snow they didn't do too well. That was on our 2004 Suburban and I assume it would be similar with the Expedition EL since they are similar in weight and size. Was that a fluke, or have you guys noticed BFGs being just so-so in snow? They are about the same price. But they don't have the mileGe warranty FWIW. Should I give them another look? I love the aggressive style but want something that will perform great more than look awesome. For $1k you'd think you could have both.

I would doubt it. Its going to be a bit more firm but not to the point that it is unbearable. My tires are 10-ply and its not like the truck is breaking my back over every bump. The most you will see with the ones you posted are 6-ply.

If you want a set of aggressive tires that is good in the snow, the Duratrac is worth considering.

I had Duratracs on my Jeep. I loved the look. And they did really well in snow and off road of course. Hmmm the Michelin LTX MS/2 seems like the practical tire with the 70,000 warranty and the great all season tread. And the Michelin LTX AT/2 is a little more aggressive but no mileage warranty since the expect you must be off-road at Moab every weekend on sharp rocks with that tire. But that Duratrac is a sweet AT/MT tire and looks great too. I guess I need to decide between meeting the all-terrain off road driving needs or just meeting the running-the-kids-to-soccer needs. I'm probably off-road less than I think I am. It's a battle in my mind between coolness and practicality.

i have the treadwright wardens. they are retreads but they are good tires. They were around $600 shipped to my door. They do well on and off road and they did good in the snow ice the last time i went up to big bear.

I've had good experiences with Firestone Destination A/T. All of the Michelins that I have had seemed to dry rot prematurely with lots of tread left. Not sure if they were an old batch or what. All I know is that it was very disappointing for the premium you pay for Michelins.

I also had BFG ATs. Good tires but a little rough riding IMHO.

If you're using as a daily driver I would think twice about mud tread tires and stick with ATs personally.
