We just picked up a leftover 24 Timberline for the family grocery getter. We weren't really looking at the Fords, but the $13k off MSRP sucked us in.

On the way home from the dealership, we noticed the maps/navigation requires a subscription in order to put in a destination. Is there a way to buy navigation and/or to hack this so we don't have to pay a yearly subscription fee to use the damn navigation?! The only suggestion from the dealership was to connect my phone to carplay.

Also, are there any tunes available for the 24 yet? I contacted Cobb but they haven't unlocked the PCM and it doesn't sound like they plan to for the Expedition.

Navigation hack and Tunes? Thanks!

There is no trial period coming with your new vehicle? My 2024 came with 12 months trial. But honestly I didn't even use it once before it was expired.

Yes, we eventually found the free trial period. Just wondering how to bypass this once the "subscription" has expired. Is it a software upgrade or can it be changed with Forscan? Seems pretty cheap of Ford not to offer navigation with a 15" screen.

No, Connected Nav is a subscription. No FORSCAN hack around that. I have used FordPass points to extend mine so far. It is a 70K+ vehicle, and yes it annoys me that I might have to eventually pay, but in comparison to other manufacturers, it is cheap.

HP Tuners is probably your only option for tuning the 24. It can be done, but you need to swap to an unlocked ECU I believe. Yours I don't believe can even be unlocked. The 25's will not be unlockable, because nothing to swap to.

I recommend contacting ZFG if you are serious. I know he was working with a few newer Expedition owners on the process.

and tuning vehicles is going to become increasingly more difficult, for all brands. e.g. Stellantis vehicles with the Hurricane motor still haven't been cracked. Friend of mine with the motor is forced to use one of the "Interceptor" style devices that simply filters sensor readings to try and add some gains. Cobb unfortunately won't be on the bleeding edge either, with their massive lawsuits for emissions violations. Sadly for them, they are probably lucky to still be in business, and I like a lot of their stuff.

Yep, those ECU's are like the newer Ford ECU's. Never going to happen. Either 3rd parties will come out with complete solutions(Fully swap ECU and BCM), or the piggy backs will become the norm again. The Scorcher from AFE, and the JB4 are actually both excellent options, and should be available for the Expedition. I have also been intrigued by the Stillen TruControl. It is a rebadged Racebox, but they offer custom tweaks for it.

After some reading it appears all 24s (across Ford) have Sync 4a. Is it possible to swap the screen with an older model out of a 23? I don't care that maps aren't updated, I just don't want to pay for such a simple feature on a "luxury" vehicle.

Ford has released tunes for the new Raptor. I'm wondering if I can get a factory tune for a little bit more power.

I haven't had much time to explore on here, but is anyone adding more power to these busses?

Dumb question of the day: So when the subscription expires, the built-in nav no longer works at all? I might've guessed we'd be loaded with a map and "no more updates" but it's worse than that?

Expeditions, from 22-24 have either Sync 4(Horizontal Screen) or Sync 4a(Vertical). The answer is no. Not without A LOT of headache. Going back to Sync 3 is a significant downgrade, and I am sure it would be possible programming wise, you would need a donor APIM, screen. The cost would pay for DECADES of connected Nav.

I think Ford will eventually offer Ford Performance tunes for most of their vehicles. I honestly think the Expedition will be one of the last...just because there is a fairly small market.

No, not all 24’s have Sync 4A. It’s an option.

Android Auto/Carplay are awesome. I don't understand why anyone wants to use the crappy head unit software.

I have a flip phone. Cell reception is spotty to non-existent. I don't want my location services turned on all the time on my phone. I forgot my phone at home.

Except...connected Nav...is well exactly that. Connected. There are apps you can use with CarPlay, that do not use internet Map Data, and use a local copy.

I think it might just be no Nav updates or real time features. Or just use Android Auto etc and google maps.
