2019 FX4 Expedition with 70,000 miles. Began very hard shifts. Previously had subtle with some hesitation between shifts when cold. Took to dealer and they determined a replacement was required. In my case it was covered under a drivetrain warranty, thankfully. Service rep says its more frequent an issue than one might imagine.

I had the same issue with mine about a month ago. Transmission was also replaced under warranty.

I had the same thing happen last month with my 2019 Expedition. Replaced transmission under extended Ford Warranty. After that it started vibration when going between 25 and 40 miles per hour, but not always. Took it back, not sure everything they did but not doing it now. I love my Expedition but it's been in the shop far too many times.

I have the exact same year and model with off road and tow package. 86k miles. No warranty. A little nervous every time I see this kind of thread. Trying to decide if I should replace transmission fluid, sell it, or do nothing and hope for the best. No sign of any issues yet. And no cam phaser signs yet either. It’s been a good vehicle. What would you guys do?

my '19 needed replacement at 56k. Pretty fun stuff. They tried the valve body first but that actually blew up worse. Good thing Ford has tranny's, unlike GM that doesn't have replacement engines right now.

I have a 2019 limited. Tranny was rebuilt at 38,000 miles, this was before the updated CDF drum was available and in 2022. Dec 2024 at 76,500 miles had to have the tranny rebuilt again, plus new valve body and torque converter, this time the new CDF drum was used. 1st time under warranty, 2nd time was $7700 and ford would not help with any of it. Love the car, hate the cost of ownership so far.

Only hate the cost of ownership - not the lack of reliability?

I would try not to worry too much. I have a ‘19 with around 60k. No real issues. Follow the maintenance schedule. I have no warranty left, either. Simply, if the transmission goes, I’ll replace it. Cam phasers? Have them done. As of right now, it’s reliably running well.

109,000 miles on my 2019, warranty expired, just paid to have the transmission rebuilt by Ford for ~$7,100. All scheduled maintenance has been performed at my local Ford dealer since I bought it. I had been complaining about shifting issues, weird transmission noises, and loss of power from the transmission ever since it hit ~50,000 miles. Had several transmission warning alerts on the screen over the last several years that would mysteriously disappear within minutes and weren't captured in memory. Vehicle even went into "limp mode" once while on a business trip and the local dealer couldn't find any issues because it cleared and drove correctly when they tested and drove it. I drove it home and took it to my local dealer to assess and they found no issues (the odd thing is, I checked my service records recently and neither dealer wrote anything into the service record regarding this issue, but thankfully I had a co-worker in the vehicle witness the event). I have since enjoined in a class action lawsuit, because Ford knows there are issues with this 10-speed transmission and won't do anything about it. Not confident it will go very far since Ford has been very good at covering this one up. Anyone else have similar issues? Anyone else join a class action lawsuit for this or had any luck getting compensation for this known issue?

I've been very curious about when/where we would hear about class actions for the tranny and phasers. My tranny was rebuilt at 52k miles, only to blow up on a mountain pass and need full replacement at 54k miles. Luckily still under mfr warranty but that was a total of 9 weeks without my car. The phasers were another 1.5 weeks at around 30k miles. And now, we're all starting to see folks need their phasers done 2,3, even 4 times in 100k miles. I feel a class action is the only way to go, both items cost a fortune to fix, and have lots of known issues, the phasers for example are known worldwide as a defect. The only way to avoid it IMHO would be to put a 200k mile warranty coverage on phasers. and maybe 100-150k mile on tranny.

We all know people with older Fords, older Toyotas, even older GM's that would do 300k miles no problem. Or the million mile motor? But just look at the GM's right now too, they have literally run out of replacement V8's because they are blowing up, often with under 5k miles on the engine. it's insane.

This is my 3rd Expedition. I had a 2002 EB version and a 2013 Limited version. I put 412,000 miles on the 2002 on the original 5.4L and tranny before I let her retire. All I did was the recommended routine maintenance and got every penny out of it. The 2013 had the same 5.4L/tranny, I had 154,000 miles on it before I was t-boned, and it was totaled. I'm seriously considering selling my 2019 and looking for a previous generation with a 5.L and "low" miles. The ones I've owned with that engine have been reliable workhorses.

I wish Ford would actually product the tri-flex motor. the more i read about that, the more i wish it came to fruition. but then again, couldn't fuel the 3rd fuel type and it's complexity would probably invite too many issues.
