Hey all. I'm a "new" Expedition owner. She's a 2003 XLT 4x4 with 160k miles.

Today, when I stopped at Auto Zone to pick up a new door lock actuator, the instrument cluster, radio and power windows stopped working. For the first time ever (in the 1 week of ownership) the radio went off when I turned off the engine. This had me wondering what was up because the radio stays on and won't turn off by itself.

When I got back in the car and started her up, the instrument cluster was dead. The radio wouldn't turn on. And the power windows wouldn't roll down.

I drove her home and on the way, the airbag light started blinking and then stayed on.

I've done some research and some one suggested removing the negative battery cable to let the computers reset themselves.

This didn't work.

Any advice? I just bought her!!

Thanks!!!

not sure if this will work but try replacing the
Accessory delay relay with the trailer tow/battery charge relay

i believe this was resolved by the new alternator install when it was a bad regulator, right?

Ive checked the relays and switched the two suggested. Still nothing.

Ive also checked the fuses and they are all good.

But I checked for power at the fuses and 3 have no power:
fuse 450- instr panel
fuse 22 - power windows
fuse 7 - radio

Any ideas?

Thanks

fuse # 22 gets it power from the Accessory delay relay pull the relay and check to see if you have power on pin 30 and then jumper pin 30 to pin 87. you would do this on the fuse block to figure which socket is pin 30 and 87 look on the relay for the pin layout diagram

Sorry... fuse 450 is meant to be fuse 15. I'm outside reading this on a tablet and can't really see the screen.

Fuse 15 is for the instrument panel.

Thanks for the help. Keep the ideas coming!!

check all the fuses in the attached prints check the with a meter

observe the fuses to see if there are any signs of overheating

use a volt meter and see if you have voltage to pin 30 of the acc delay relay measure this on the fuse block

Okay, here are the results... (drum roll please)

Fuse 18 - 42.35
Fuse 21 - 12.38
Fuse 15 - 0
Fuse 1 - 0
Fuse 27 - 12.25

Fuse 105 - 12.43
Fuse 5. - 12.25
Fuse 110 - 22.42

Fuse 4 - 12.25
Fuse 22 - 0
Fuse 31 - 12.41
Fuse 7 - pops up to 9 or so when starting, then 0 in run position

Fuse 18 seems strange, not possible to have that voltage on a 12 volt system..
Did you take those voltage readings with the key in the run position?

if you have no power to fuse 22 then your problem is either a bad delay relay or instrument cluster or fuse block or a combination of those items.

the fuses that read 0 volts pull the fuse and check them with a ohm meter
also pull fuse 22 and insert a lead into the opening where fuse 22 goes and check for voltage one lead in the opening and one lead on a good ground check both sides of the socket for fuse 22 it also could be possible that the connection on the fuse socket is bad

If the blade connectors for fuses F1 - F15 - F22 show no power then there is probably a failure on the fuse box pc board.

Look at it logically, what is the chance of losing power to three fuses? Slim, unless there is a overload/failure common to all of the circuits or they are in series.

Thanks for the information. I'm working with a "Ford Expert" on Just Answer.com

He's walking me thru some additional steps. He doesn't believe it's the instrument cluster. He just had me test power at pin 3 of C270g with key in the Run position. C270g is one of the plugs that comes into the fuse box. I'm not getting any power at pin 3, so no power is coming to some of the fuses.

Also, my air bag light is flashing a "53" code on the instrument cluster. The blinkers work, but the other error lights and gauges are dead.

Thoughts?

I really appreciate the help guys.

I just bought the SUV last Saturday and I'm having all kinds of electrical/body issues.

Today I took it to a body shop and was told I have $3,600 in rust issues on the inner and outer rocker panels on both sides below both doors. There are holes under the doors and when you touch the paint, chunks of metal drop off. Plus both back doors are rusting around the hinges and the metal is breaking around the hinge plate.

I thought I bought this from a reputable car dealer (a big Acura dealer in OKC). But the rust repairs are more than half the price of the SUV.
