OEM Roof Top Rack Cross Bar Removal

I ordered a ‘19 Limited with the cargo package. I expect delivery any time. How easy is it to remove the crossbars on the roof rack? I know the rear bar is movable, but are it and the front bar easily removed and reinstalled when needed? I appreciate your input.

Easy. Just did mine. You need the right size Torx bit, I forget which size. Also helps if you're tall, which I'm not.

It’s super super easy. 8 torx bolts and off she comes. The front bar is a little longer than the back, so keep that in mind when reinstalling.

My front bar was labeled, plus both bars have an indicator as to which side faces front.

For me, height reduction. I park in NYC garages with 6'2" clearances and don't always fit.

Helps with wind noise; mine was noticeably quieter with them removed. Plus I think it looks a lot slicker with them off.

I like the smooth look better and park in a garage frequently where clearance can be an issue. I bought the bars because I plan to use them on occasion, but I don’t want them on full time.

I personally just think it looks a little more elegant, a little less utilitarian with the cross bars removed. Plus, my wife really likes when nothing is blocking the panoramic roof.

Yes. I like how easily they come on and off. Mine live on the wall in the garage but went on these week to go to the river to tie tubes on. Heck of a vehicle when I can squeeze in 7 folks and strap all our tubes to the roof. Granted, we look like the Beverly Hillbillies if Granny was a river float, but still.

We’re like 600hp cars with only RWD...lots of power just a lot of trouble putting it all down effectively. Ha!

The newer ones must be made differently than my 17. As my cross rails are lower than the side rails.

Yep. The cross bars on my 19 stick up quite a bit over the rails

Don't forget to reinstall the plastic plugs in the screw holes after removing the bars.

Yes, that front bar is kind of annoying how it blocks the view. Like looking out into the street at a giant telephone pole. I figured it was placed there for strength in case something dropped or hit the roof. Good to know it's ok to either move the front one to the back or just take them off.

Plus, this thing is tall! It's a couple inches taller than my 2009 Suburban was.

There were plastic plugs in the center position. I just reinstalled the bolts in the places where my cross bars were sitting. It's on my to do list to find some plugs so I don't lose the bolts.
