So I changed the valve cover gaskets on my 99 Expy 4.6 and I'm still getting smoke bellowing out of the rear of the motor especially after hard acceleration. I put new valve cover gasket which after i removed the original ones I had suspicions that this was not my problem as they were blue rubber and were in great shape and clean. But I put the new ones in and made sure even after I had them sitting in place that the gaskets were in place. I used a bore scope and could see that the gaskets hadn't rolled out. However I'm still getting smoke. Any other issues these motors could have that could cause this? It seems to be coming from the passenger side to the middle. Not so much the drivers side.

Use the scope to check the entire gasket. How well did you clean the head and what did you use to clean it with?

Yes I made sure the whole gasket was in place. I wiped down the head with a rag with mineral spirits on it. I'm fearing it actually may be the head gasket. I see that this is a common issue with these. If so I may just try to get some of my money back out of this one. I don't think I can justify paying for a head gasket job.

I'm guessing the head gasket is what is leaking the oil. Replaced a handful of them myself, seems to always be passenger side too.
