Hello fellow Expy owners\operators.

I am new to this site and need a little help with my 2006 5.4 w\91k miles.
Last week it came up with a P0304 code, checked the coil packs on that side of the cylinder bank, 4 and a couple others had a couple drops of moisture in the boot dried them all up blew out the holes in heads even replaced the boot on one since the spring got messed up putting it back on coil using Napa parts.
I cleaned and dried the tips on the coils were springs go.

Today it gave a P0300 pretty much is that any all plugs are now misfiring, this is under light load going up hills.
Before I throw a bunch parts at it and work on something that is not causing it anyone have experience with this issue???

thanks,

Welcome to the forum.

As far as your problem, When I first bought my 05 Expy I had the same problem, misfire/hesitation under light load, keeping speed up hills. Then it started happening under hard acceleration, along with light load. I had to replace Coils 3 & 7... After that the problem continued, and was told that I need to do a plug job. with 91k on it did you or do you know if the truck ever had the plugs changed? This could be the problem.

Still has original plugs.

Time to change em, Champions are one piece??

This issue just happened from one day to the next, plugs just wear down over time and not cause an instant change in performance like this.

i hate to say it, but i would only use OEM ford plugs in your 06 3valve. its hard to swallow at $25- $27 each but there is a lot of reasons why i say this. such as corrects thread chamfer pitches, to being the CORRECT plug with the correct sized gap.

Agreed... and my problem started with the bad coils, then progressed to the plugs...

Changed the plugs out, broke one #8 the top did not want to come out it was a chore pulling it out\off with pliers. Used the Lisle 65600 to remove the bottom half.
Also did the coil on #4
Runs a lot better now, time will tell on long term perf.
