I have 2001 Expy with some front body issues, grill, lights, bumper. Looking at a 98 parts truck. Will those items bolt on?

What other things might have changed over those years?

I can't keep a parts truck very long so i would strip the comon roadside emergency parts- alternator, ac compressor, starter, window motors etc. and send the rest for scrap.

Suggestions for other expensive parts I might want to hang on to?

THanks

Dave

off the top of my head..

rear heater core, rear evaporator and expansion valve. rear blower motor. air bags..front blower motor resistor, ac drier, orifice tube, manifold hose from donor compressor, any sensors from the engine that look compatible. spare tire hoist/spare wheel. rear liftgate window. wiper motor front and rear. air suspension parts if applicable(possible to sell them if you don't need them) headlight switch, multifunction switch (turn, high low beam, and wipers all on this switch) ign cyl.

I could go on...

Agreed, you can always throw the parts away as you find out they are not compatible, but you can't get them back after you send the truck away. Take anything and everything that might be of value. I have seen several people take the front fascia of a 99-02 and bolt it onto the older trucks. I would imagine it would work in reverse as well.

To remove the parts your talking about, and reinstall them on another truck is relly not worth it. some of the parts are under 200 dollars. most are under 100. The A/C system you definitely do not want to use used parts on

I'm using used ac parts and having no problem out of it. that was also because I practically got it for free and because I needed to know if everything else would be in working order.

I just bolted a 2000 f150 grill, 2001 f150 bumper to my 1997 expy. The only problem is fog light bulbs are different. I have to use 99 and up bulbs and change my wiring plugs to the 99-02 style. The 97 bulbs will not fit into the 01 f150 fog light housing.

I do searches on ebay for parts and see if they are compatible. Ex. 99-02 expy sunroof motor is same part number to 2006 expy.

Yeah, there is that risk. I just made sure to pull a known good one and inspect the orifice tube of the donor truck. oil and tube were clean so I went ahead with it. not to say it won't fail but it's better to check first. also. i plan to replace my compressor with a new one sometime anyhow, i just need to find a good brand for the $$

Thanks for all the tips.

This is the family fun vehicle so I'm most interested in in parts that are either very expensive or likely to fail on the raod and ruin a trip.

But it turns out the donor truck runs OK (smokes a little) so I will strip body parts and keep it running as a yard truck for a while.

thanks
