Showed up on my ford pass today. Anyone have info? POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAM FOR CAM PHASER RATTLE 21B10

My car does sound like **** when it starts up but the lease is up in 3 months so wasn't necessarily going to do anything about it. If this is an actual fix it may shift my plans.

I have noticed since I got my phasers redone a few weeks back that the engine cranks a bit more before firing up. This would make sense with what some others have said on here (i.e. push the brake and the gas when starting to let the engine crank and build up some oil pressure before starting). So my GUESS would be that this PCM reflash is just going to tell the computer to crank the engine a bit extra before it starts.

That wouldn't fix a cam phaser issue if you already have one, but it might stave one off if you haven't developed the issue.

This is not a “phaser recall”.

It is a customer satisfaction campaign by Ford, to reprogram the vehicles affected.

A recall is issued for safety concerns.

It showed up on ford pass under recall, but I could honestly care less about what it's called.

What aggie posted would make sense though if it's not letting the engine fire until oil pressure build a bit more to quiet the phasers. Was wondering how they could "solve" it with a reflash. Sounds more like treating the symptom and not the cause.

I just checked my Lincoln app and I have the same thing on mine. I guess they can do this when I take it in Tuesday for a different warranty issue I’m having resolved. They ordered my phaser stuff a month ago and we’re still waiting on that stuff.

It was throwing phaser codes but the CEL went off a couple days ago… not sure what that’s about.

I would hold off if I were you guys. Main reason, quite a few F150s who have had this done noticed engine/transmission shudders after the update was done. They claim the transmission shifts too soon and the engine bogs down and starts shuddering. You can read all about it here but it's a lengthy thread.

Yeah I have no rattling as of yet and zero shifting issues. Gotz no issues I’d like it to stay that way. I have the recall notification also. I’ll happily wait till this shakes out some.

I had rattles with cold start up and I just dropped by 19 Expedition for cam phasers replacement yesterday. Took the dealer almost a month to get parts. Let hope they can fix it since they claimed that many F150 got phasers replaced by them.

Hi, just called my dealer to get FSA 21B10 done on my 2018 Expedition. Was told they don't have the software for the Expedition yet, only the F-150

You click on schedule service and it will take to dealers in your area to make an appointment. My understanding is that Ford doesn’t have a software update for the 4th Gen Expeditions yet.

That’s correct. They have also pulled back on that update. It caused transmission problems and have reverted loading the as built data back on the trucks. Again this is just for F150s.

That's fun, warn us of a recall and to schedule a repair for a non-available fix that might make things worse. Ugh. Was actually going to call and schedule this soon.

The dealer just did the reprogram on my ‘19 Max today. I guess they have the Expy software in now. Is there more info on the tranny issue with the reflash?

Well, from a legal standpoint it matters what they call it. A recall issue must be repaired and done so at their expense. This "customer satisfaction campaign" is simply an acknowledgement that they know there's a problem and they'll try this one little thing to fix it. If it doesn't fix it, well that's too bad and you're SOL.
