I purchased my 05 Expy (3V 5.4L) in October 2011 and found a business card for the previous owner. E-mailed them and asked if the plugs had been changed (107K miles). They had not, but they gave me the name of the dealer that had been servicing it. (The lady was very nice and even met my wife to give her the spare key they had!)

Called the dealer they gave me and they were extremely nice also. Apparently the previous owner had a miss, and brought it in (August 2011) and declined the full plug change at that time. (Dealer only replaced 2 plugs and 2 coils per customer wishes) I then asked about full plug change, and they said they charge $239 for it, and that INCLUDES plugs, fuel filter, air filter, PCV, and labor to install all of these. As with any other dealer, they do charge extra if a plug breaks @ $23.50 per plug. I thought this was a very good price for what you get (Compared to other places I called), and since it is a factory dealership, I am having it done as I type this. (I did have to drive 80 miles one way, so there is a bit of fule involved)

What prices have others found for this? Did I get a good price or was I just too eager not to do it myself knowing the problems possible with plug change?

Well, all went perfect. No broken plugs, no issues at all. I was very pleased. MPG avg on the way there was 14.9 running 70 mph, and MPG on the way back was 17.3 running 70 mph and that was with a 10mph headwind... Not a long term scientific test by any means, just used my Ultragague and reset on the way there and on the way back, but I am sure the 6 remaining plugs were ready for replacement. I am hoping the MPG will get a bit better yet.

Thanks for the replies, the dealer was Rick Ball Ford in Sedalia MO in case anyone is near there and needs this done. I wasnt exactly impressed with the "waiting area", (No coffee for customers?? Had a coffee pot there but no one ever made any. had to walk and get me some.. GEESH!!) but the service staff was courteous and I didnt get the feeling they were going to try and sell me something I didnt need, and the price was good.

Next up.. Ball joints & tires.. In that order :) Any other tips for Maintenance on the 2005 Expy?

Wow... I'm in the wrong part of the U.S. My dealer had just quoted me $1,200.00 for all that you mentioned, and a injection cleaning. you got a GREAT price!

Great deal! If they did that service that cheap it would probably be a good idea to make that trip for all services you need done!

KC Dave, Word of advice! Stay away from Dick Smith Ford!

RBurch, Wow.. I have actually purchased 5 used vehicles from them and got really good prices on them. (I actually live very close to Raytown). I have had a few service items done by them, (Mostly specials on oil changes) but I feel they are way overpriced on service. I also do most of my own repairs anyway.

If you dont mind me asking, what experience did you have there?

Your right! I should... Even if I take the whole family and feed them too... I'm still ahead. I found a guy that will do the plugs on the side for $295.00 all together, and that's still more expensive then what he paid!

I know a tech that works there and my best friend and i had a 03 F350 with the 6.0L for our work truck that he bought from them. Scheduled maintenance service was exceptional! It was till the HPOP went out that we found out how crappy the service was! Pump went out within 100 miles of warranty expiration. Went up there and spoke with them and got them to warranty it anyways. Dropped the truck off and was told it would take 5-7 days for the repair. Called them 9 days later i because i hadnt recieved a call for pick-up. They only had one diesel tech and he was out sick! Told them we had projects on hold and i needed our truck. they said that there was nothing they could do because tech was sick.

Got the truck back 4 days later, drove it home and the next day the battery was dead so i popped the hood to jump it and we noticed that the $700 Airaid intake wasnt put back together and all the nuts and bolts were gone! got the truck started and took it back to them for the repairs. Get there and tell them what happened and they fixed it but it was a big inconvenience since we had work to do.

About 7 months later same problem! HPOP went out. Talked to Dick Smith ford and they said they had warrantied it once before and werent going to do it again.
