2006 EB 4x4 just got her last week w 148K miles. First set of plugs will be tomorrow confirmed w prior owners. Not doing it myself local Garage has the tool if any break. Also getting Rear diff fluid and friction mod; fuel and oil filters and Mobile 1 Syn. All Ford parts per these forums. Trying to save my coils. Per these forums. Tranny shifts great so going to flush it at Ford for 179+tax. Then I'm doing my front diff fluid, tcase fluid, brake and coolant. Anything else?

Going to have a pool with my team at work tomorrow on how many plugs break :)

These forums are awesome guys thanks a lot. I'll write my sig once she survives the plug swap.

Good luck! With the tool, it was easy to get them out so I just decided to go at it without worrying about breaking any. I ended up breaking 7 of them. I keep them in a ziplock and have them in my toolbox so that I can look at them for confidence. :)

Whack-A-Coil

So an update since I did my plugs....

Getting intermittent misfires first after plugs were done. Found a loose coil on cylinder 6. Fixed problem for a day. Then when the weather got damp and cold I got misfires from cylinders 4 and 6. As 4 is hard to get to, we moved the coil yesterday from 6 to 7. Last night I got another code for cylinder 6, even after we moved the coil we thought was bad.

Then I got to thinking about all the posts about bad motocraft sp515's out of the box and told the garage. Today we will probably replace the plug in cylinder 6 and then see what happens. I told him if he wants to put a new OEM coil on 6 as well I'm ok with that; need a spare.

Using dielectric grease seemed to reduce the degree of severity of the misfire(s).

Any other suggestions are appreciated! Let you know how I make out!

To update and close this thread....

Plug change (Sp-515)was a nightmare. Random misfires after the change on all cylinders I think, by the time I was done. Ended up changing all the coils (DG511) to ensure the plugs were the source of the problem (Mucho $$$ for Motorcraft coils but worth it in the end I hope)

After days and days of moving coils and checking individual cylinders finally convinced the garage to pull all the plugs and clean everything up. Significant improvement after that. Still have the rumble strip at 55 when overdrive is lumbering along and rough idle but otherwise it seems to be finally, running close to normal. Fuel economy is now, close to normal.

If I had my time back I would probably take the opinion if it aint broke don't fix it. This preventative maintenance has been a nightmare.

Thanks for all the help!
