Prospective owner questions

I currently own a 97 Chevy Blazer as a backup vehicle and to be used for deep snow. Well, the tranny went kaput the other day. I called a few tranny shops and they both pretty much stated that that particular tranny is troublesome to say the least. 1800 for a full rebuild.

So now I'm looking at possibly obtaining a cheap Expo, probably years 97-03. Anything problematic about these years (specifically engines/trannys)?
