How about the auto stop/start issue? Does the detector restart everytime with the mirror tap set up? Thanks

I can’t comment on that as I have that turned off with forscan so I can’t even try. I do know mine cycles with the ignition i.e. if I hit the start button with no brake it powers up and then restarts after I hit it again with the brake to start the engine.

I did the install last weekend and yes it is very easy. I also installed Valentine Radar Detector BOB (Brown Out Booster). The BOB sends power to the detector when the engine auto stops so the detector doesn't go through the start up routine every time I stop.

I believe the ASS doesn’t power any accessories off so the BOB would be redundant.

ASS turns off the AC 110V AC plug in the second row but not sure what else. I have the ASS Eliminator now so don't have to worry about the Apple TV power cycling and the kids going nuts anymore. Learned a lot on that first road trip to Taos.

So I got out and messed around again and finally found the wires I was looking for. For those of you searching in the future: You need to tap the white (+) and black (-) wires on the mirror side of the mirror plug, and that will get you the power you need.

I just traded my '17 Navigator L for a '19 Expedition Limited. I reused my radar detector mount and taps in my new Expedition. I followed your instructions and it literally took 5 minutes. Thanks for posting!!

I ran a power test bypassing the BOB and directly powering my Valentine V1 with the Mirrortap. The BOB IS needed if you have Auto Start Stop active on your ride. Every time the engine started backup, the V1 went through the power up cycle.

Just wanted to share the results of my test and I can't speak for other brands of radar detectors but, the V1 needs the BOB.

I stand corrected, thanks for the info.

Escort MAX 360 with wiretap stays powered on during auto stop/start. No issues.
So I’ve tried testing my passport with the ASS enabled but now the doggone ASS never shuts the vehicle off. I don’t know if it’s because the car sat for over a week and the battery needs charging from the alternator or what. I do get the little ASS symbol pop up when I press the brakes hard at a complete stop. I’ll report back eventually.

Ass worked today and my passport stayed on. If yours is turning off you may have tapped the wrong wire.

I checked and I am tapped into the white and black wires on the mirror side. Valentine Research says that if the voltage drops below 10 volts (even for a moment) when the voltage resumes normal level, it puts the radar detector into its start up mode. So it appears the V1 is sensitive to voltage drops below 10 Volts more so than others out there.

Guys,
Has anyone been successful using the front upper console dome light or the power sun roof/side window for power and ground? Replacing the console with sun roof option, while replacing I was going to tap into power and ground connection for either function and install mirror mounted Uniden R3. Any issues using these power/ ground options switched? Having no luck so far finding the wiring diagram. Besides using my volt meter, any idea which wire is switched ign power and ground in map lighting or power sun roof/side window?

can always run down headliner to passenger fuse panel as 2nd option using an add a circuit to 31. Thought I would save time and wiring tapping into roof console area. Haven’t check mirror for white and black wires yet: It’s a 2012 Ford Expedition EL with rain sensing option.

appreciate any ideas and feedback to wire up the Uniden R3 near mirror and upper map console area.

Thanks,
B

Anyone figure out how to keep the power on whether the truck is on or off? I’m trying to power a dash cam and it works fine when accessory is on but not when truck is off.

So question here, I've seen some great wiring diagrams in posts like this, does anyone have a similar diagram for under that dash that might help me find an accessory circuit for a signal circuit? Need less than .5A and I really hate using VOM's to test circuits in these ridiculously sensitive systems. Thanks in advance.

As for the mirror tap, I've had some mixed experiences. My radar detector works fine, but I also have a DashCAM connected and it has a battery protection setting (that I can't override) that freaks out when the auto start/stop feature kicks in, so when using the mirror circuit, the dash cam often shuts off if my vehicle shuts off for long.
