Rear End ????

Does anyone know what size gear comes stock on the 98 Expy 4x4? Just trashed my rear gear and have to find a new one.. Also should I buy stock or aftermarket?

You can tell by the axle code on the door sticker. There's a list of the codes on this forum somewhere.

Best / most labor intensive way: new gears and a new selectable locker.

Cheapest /easiest way: get the whole rear axle from a junkyard and swap it in.

im pretty sure your truck comes with 3.55 but could be 3.73 i believe. either way, i agree with tony. cheap way is junkyard. if you do lots of offroading and want lift and tires, regear and selectable locker while you have it open is the best thing. if you regear, you will have to do the front as well, FYI.

heres the axle codes for my 97 i think it would be the same for 98

The front and rear axle codes are:

* Axle ratio codes are:
- 16 - 3.73.
- H6-3.73 Limited slip.
- l7 - 3.31.
- H7-3.31 Limited slip.
- 19 - 3.55.
- H9 - 3.55 Limited slip.

A letter followed by a number is a lsd
