I’m agreeing with the original poster. I bought the most basic 2019 with the options I cared about - it’s an XL Max with tow package, 3 rd row, and 2sp transfer case. I added the lift kit and 34” tires. It had 90 miles when i got it and now it’s at 2200. The more i drive it the more annoyed I get with the AC controls, auto stop/start, and for some reason the headlight switch keeps moving on its own (Or my knee bumps it getting in and out).
And don’t get me started on the push button. I’m 44, but apparently I’m getting old - and would prefer things to be simple - I’ll take an old fashioned key, knobs for the AC/heat, and no auto stop/start. Also, why doesn’t the drive mode retain the setting thru stop starts? Another annoying thing is the 4x4 controls. I’ve not needed it yet, but my old 2008 had a dial that I could (and did) quickly flip into 4x4 high if I suddenly found myself in a mud pit I wasn’t expecting - now i have to additionally wonder if the 4x4 option is available in the current drive mode. I’m trying to keep an open mind and I’m going to keep trying to like it, but I’m leaning toward keeping the 2008 and selling the 2019.

Ok. I'm the OP. Back home driving the 2014EL … home from the airport in wind snow and ice. Kinda nasty which is kinda nice, I like winter. Heading to VT in the am.

Observations:
1) The 5.4 engine is a total DOG vs the EcoBoost. I'm fine with that, I drive slow careful and in no hurry. But ... who doesn't like acceleration? The NEW Expy wins that award.
2) Drivers seat "fit" different. The 2014 has better ergonomics for ME. I can reach the steering wheel with my left arm resting on the door "ledge" without my knees bent too far. The steering wheel is lower and easier to reach in the 2014. Would need to compare side by side to be sure. Sometimes, its the personal fit of a vehicle that makes all the difference.
3) Yes, would take cluster - features - safety - display - turbo - NAV - EcoBeast - etc in NEW vs 2014. Hope for that in Bronco. wait maybe V8 , confused. NAV has deficiencies, but what doesn't?
4) Got tired of lane departure warning, probably had that going off 10% of the time. What is that doing, activating the steering ? How does that feedback work?

There are two options -- Alert and Aid.

Alert is the vibration in the steering wheel. This just lets you know that you are crossing the line.

Aid is where the steering actually moves you back into the lane.

Both of these can be turned on individually or completely off, if I remember correctly.

Lane departure can easily be turned off with the button on the dash. There are different levels on aid. On the highest one it will take the wheel out of your hand. I leave it off unless the weather is bad or I’m feeling sleepy.

I get way mote fatigued and faster in my wifes cx5 than i do in our expy. I find the expy a bit easier to drive on the hwy. In town theres no comparison though lol.

So do the settings hold when you turn things off? Or have to reset every restart?

The recirculate has a nanny feature so you can’t just leave it on unless you want it off. Like I do in every other car that’s ever had one. Turning stuff off all the time would be a real PITA.

Some stay off, others don’t. For instance the button on the dash will turn the lane departure off, but I think it’s back on on the next startup. BUT if you go into the settings menu in the gauge cluster and change the alert mode on the lane departure to “none” (or “off” or whatever), then it will stay off.

Essentially the buttons in the center stack are for individual instances when you need a feature off. If you want them to stay off, change the setting.

Except, of course, for those things you can’t change, e.g. drive mode will always default to normal.
