Was experiencing an increasing grinding from what felt like the LH front wheel/hub area. I could slightly reproduce the sensation spinning the tire by hand. Took about 3 hours to pull and replace both sides with Motorcraft parts. Will give her a test drive tomorrow. 120k 2011 XLT 4x4.

Good… was hoping it wasn’t the IWE’s. You were right there with everything apart. I might’ve just changed those out too knowing me.

What is the IWE? I've been having an intermittent noise from the front right of my 2013 expedition when cruising straight down the highway. And that corner of the vehicle clunks when it's in four-wheel-drive and I'm turning. A hub is usually a pretty consistent noise, with it maybe getting louder when going around a curve one way or the other. And a CV joint is usually a click when turning. So I have been thinking it's neither of those items. So I'm wondering what the IWE is that was just mentioned.

Thanks Ellison. I had no idea what an iwe was until I just researched it. I never considered that could have been part of the problem. At least I know how to get to it now.

Jonathan I've not experienced what you are describing. Hopefully some of the more experienced troubleshooters can chime in

You know what's weird? The expedition seems to roll more smoothly and with less resistance since I replaced the hubs and front and rear brakes. The fuel mileage estimates on the cluster are in the 18.4 range. In the past few years, it's never shown above 16.5 mpg. Is it possible?
